SEATTLE - The host Huskies scored less than 10 seconds into Sunday's game, but South Dakota State scored the next nine points and kept their foot on the gas for the rest of the game, as the Jackrabbits stunned Washington with a 92-73 win in front of 9,060 fans at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, Wash.
The Jacks improve to 10-4 with the win, while Washington, who saw it's 32 game non-conference home winning streak snapped, falls to an even 5-5.
"All losses are bad losses, all wins are good wins, but I think for program and its notoriety, this is certainly one of our best wins at the Division I level," head coach Scott Nagy said. "You can play with confidence, but we really shot it today, and when you shoot it, it really smoothes over everything."
The Jackrabbits shot, and shot well, going a perfect 7-for-7 from three-point range to start the game in building their lead to as many as 22 points with 6:14 left in the first half. Washington would cut that lead to as few as 14 points, but the Jacks boosted the lead back to 18 points at 51-33 at halftime.
The Jackrabbits shot 59 percent in the first half on 19-of-32 shooting overall and 73 percent from three-point range after going 8-for-11 in the half. The Huskies shot 40 percent on 15-for-35 shooting in the opening half with just a trio of three-pointers in 10 tries.
Washington cut into the Jackrabbit lead to get as close as 11 points with just under 14 minutes to play in the game, but they would get no closer for the rest as the game.
SDSU came down to earth a bit in the second half offensively, shooting 47 percent on 9-of-19 from the floor, but the defense stayed stout in holding the Huskies to 42 percent shooting in a 15-for-36 effort.
In addition to their defense, the Jackrabbits took care of the ball, turning it over a season-low five times, resulting in just four points.
Nate Wolters led the Jackrabbits with a season-high 34 points, adding five rebounds, seven assists and no turnovers. Four other Jackrabbits also scored in double figures, led by Griffan Callahan with 16 points. Chad White finished with 12 points, all of which came from beyond the three-point line, Jordan Dykstra added 11 and Tony Fiegen 10 points in the win, which gives the Jacks a perfect 1-0 record all-time against Pac 12 teams.
Tony Wroten led the home team with 23 points, Darnell Gant scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the games only double-double, and C.J. Wilcox scored 12 points in the loss.
With the non-conference portion of its season over, the Jackrabbits return to action at home on Dec. 28, when they host IPFW in Frost Arena at 7 p.m.
