Five South Dakota State players scored in double figures to pave the way for the Jackrabbits to dominate IPFW 94-58 in front of 2,335 fans at Frost Arena that also witnessed head coach Scott Nagy win his 300th career game.
"I forgot all about it until about six minutes left in the game, when Austin Hansen said 'this is a heck of a way to get your 300th.' I just told the players after the game that it just means that you've been around a long time and we've had good programs," Nagy said of the milestone win. "The last 100 have been a heck of a lot harder than the first 200, but it's been worth it."
The Jackrabbits improve to 11-4 overall and remain perfect in Summit League play at 3-0. IPFW falls to 7-5 on the season overall and 1-2 in league play.
Chad White led the Jackrabbits with 18 points in the win, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out a career-high seven assists in the process. Both Nate Wolters and Brayden Carlson finished with 17 points, which marks a career-high for Carlson. Wolters added four each in rebounds and assists, all without a turnover, which gives him more than 70 minutes over the last three games without turning the ball over.
"We're starting to shoot the ball now like I though we would shoot it all year," Nagy said of the Jackrabbit offense. "I think a big part of that is Chad (White), Chad didn't shot the ball well early, and now he's playing with a lot of confidence."
Tony Fiegen added 12 points and six rebounds, while Griffan Callahan rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Jordan Dykstra finished with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds, as SDSU won the rebounding battle 45-31. The Jacks also finished plus 13 in assists with a 21-8 edge.
Frank Gaines led a trio of Mastodons in double figures with 15 points. Trey McCorkle added 12 and Justin Jordan 10 points in the loss.
The 'Dons hung with the Jacks early and led by as many as four points early, but a Wolters layup with 14:09 on the clock in the first half put the Jacks up for good.
SDSU led 46-37 at the half, and continued to increase the lead throughout the second half before reaching the final 36-point margin, which marks the largest margin of victory for the Jackrabbits in a Summit League game.
South Dakota State returns to action on Friday, when the Jacks host two time defending regular and postseason champion Oakland in Frost Arena at 7 p.m. The Golden Grizzlies come to Brookings after a 96-69 loss at North Dakota State on Wednesday.
