HONOLULU - South Dakota State scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but Longwood countered with five unanswered runs, four of which came in the fifth, to down the Jackrabbits 5-3 at the Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The loss drops the Jacks to 2-13 heading into tonight's game against No. 14 Hawaii, the tournament hosts. Longwood improves to 14-4 with the win.
Kori Seidlitz led the Jackrabbits with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, with a double and a single. Marlee Petersen went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Tina Winter went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Seidlitz also started in the circle for the Jacks. She gave up three runs, two earned, on six hits with three walks and a pair of strikeouts, but did not factor in the decision. Pam Nicholson pitched two innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits, and took the loss.
The Jackrabbits and host Rainbow Wahine start on Saturday at 9 p.m. CT, 5 p.m. HAT.
