HONOLULU - Less than 24 hours after being no-hit in a 9-0 loss to No. 14 Hawaii, the South Dakota State softball team played the same Rainbow Wahine team much closer in a 3-1 loss on Sunday at the Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament.
The Jackrabbits fall to 2-15 with the loss, and now play Longwood in the consolation championship at 2 p.m. HAT. Hawaii improves to 19-5, and advances to play Miami (Ohio) in the tournament championship game on Sunday evening.
Kori Seidlitz pitched six strong innings for the Jacks, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits, with five strikeouts and not walks.
Hawaii scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take the early 2-0 lead. The Jacks got one back in the fifth. Tina Winter opened the inning with a walk and then pinch runner Sammy Bingham advanced to third on a pair of sacrifice bunts before scoring on an error.
The Rainbow Wahine got that run back in the top of the fifth for the final run of the game.
