SHREVEPORT, La. - Kori Seidlitz and Pam Nicholson both pitched complete game shutouts, while Tina Winter went 7-for-8 with three doubles, a homerun and four runs scored as the South Dakota State softball team swept a doubleheader at Centenary on Friday by the scores of 2-0 and 7-0.
The Jackrabbits improve to 4-16 overall and 2-0 in The Summit League, while the Ladies fall to 2-14 overall, 1-4 in league play.
The Jacks got the only run they would need in Game 1 in the third inning. Winter started the inning with a double to the gap in right center field, advanced to third on an Ashley Durazo single and then scored on a Devon Reick sacrifice fly.
Winter set the table again in the fifth with a one out double down the left field line, and then scored two batters later on a Reick single to center that put the Jacks up 2-0.
Seidlitz took care of the rest giving up just two hits the rest of the way. She improves to 2-7 after giving up seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
SDSU wasted little time in scoring its first two runs in the nightcap, as the Jacks got two across with two hits an one error in the first to take the early 2-0 lead.
The Jacks made it 3-0 in the second on a Durazo RBI single that scored Allison Huffman, who reached on an error to open the inning.
Winter opened the Jackrabbit half of the third with a double to left center and then scored the first of three SDSU runs in the frame on a Nicholson single. Marlee Petersen scored the second run on a Reick dingle down the left field line, while Durazo knocked in Huffman for the third an final run of the inning that put SDSU up 6-0.
Winter put a cap on her near-perfect day when she opened the fourth inning with her first homerun of the season, a solo shot over the fence in right center that gave the Jacks a 7-0 lead.
Nicholson scattered five hits in the win, which boosts her record to 2-9, striking out four and walking three in the process.
The Jackrabbits look to make it a clean sweep in their first Summit League series of the season on Saturday, when they play the Ladies at 12 p.m.
