SHREVEPORT, La. - Tied at three in the top of the sixth, senior Greta Stroh belted her first homerun of the season over the left field fence to lift the Jackrabbits to a 5-3 win and complete a three game sweep at Centenary on Saturday in the Jacks first Summit League series of the season.
The Jacks improve to 5-16 overall with the win and a perfect 3-0 in Summit League play. Centenary falls to 2-15 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Stroh finished the day with just the one hit, but did knock in two runs, as did Kori Seidlitz, who gave the Jacks and insurance run in the seventh with a bases loaded single that put SDSU up 5-3.
Seidlitz also to the start in the circle, and gave up two runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout before giving way to the eventual winning pitcher Pam Nicholson, who gave up one run on five hits over the last four innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
The Jacks jumped out on top early, scoring three runs in the first, all with two outs and with the benefit of just one hit.
Centenary came right back with two runs in the bottom of the first and then tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth, only to see Stroh put the Jacks up for good in the sixth.
If the snow melts in time, the Jackrabbits open their home schedule on Wednesday against South Dakota at 2 p.m., otherwise the Jacks return to action on March 26, when they open a three game series at UMKC.
