GREELEY, Colo. - Sophomore Stephen Bougher pitched a four-hit shutout in the second game of a doubleheader as South Dakota State completed a doubleheader sweep of Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon at Jackson Field.
The Jackrabbits won the opener, 13-2, then posted a 2-0 shutout in the nitecap to improve to 6-9 overall. UNC dropped to 1-10 on the season.
In the opener, Andrew Phelan and Zach Rhodes each recorded three hits and drove in four runs for the Jackrabbits, who scored in double figures for the second consecutive game.
SDSU opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the first. Rhodes plated the first three runs with his second home run of the season. The Jackrabbits' fourth run of the inning scored on a bases-loaded walk to Zach Briggs.
Northern Colorado scored a pair of runs in the second inning against Jackrabbit starter Blake Treinen on a groundout and a triple off the bat of Harrison Lambert.
The Jackrabbits broke open the game with a four-run third inning. Phelan doubled in the first run of the inning and another run scored on a groundout. Rhodes and Jesse Sawyer added run-scoring hits later in the inning.
SDSU tacked on five runs on six hits in the sixth inning. Phelan hit a three-run home run to left field, with Billy Stitz and Daniel Telford contributing runs batted in.
