GREEN BAY, Wis. - Kori Seidlitz pitched a three-hit gem in the first game of a South Dakota State doubleheader at Green Bay on Thursday, but the Jackrabbit bats went cold in the 2-1 loss, and didn't come around in time to prevent a 6-1 loss to the Phoenix in the nightcap.
The sweep drops the Jacks to 8-30 on the season, while Green Bay improves to 15-12.
Seidlitz surrendered two runs on just three hits over six innings in the opener, when she tied a career-mark in posting a season-high nine strikeouts. She also walked four and hit two batters.
Greta Stroh opened the second inning with a single and eventually scored on an Allison Huffman single to put the Jacks up 1-0 after two complete.
Green Bay capitalized on a walk, a hit batter and a pair of hits in the third to score the only two runs of the game they would need.
Devon Reick started the second game of the day with a leadoff double to left field, and then gave the Jacks an early lead three batters later when she scored on an Ashley Durazo fielder's choice to put SDSU up 1-0.
That lead stood until the bottom of the second, when the Phoenix used four hits and one Jackrabbit error to score five runs. Green Bay would add one more in the third to go up by the final 6-1 score.
Durazo posted the other two hits for the Jacks in the loss with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Pam Nicholson gave up all six runs, five earned, on six hits, with three strikeouts and five walks before giving way to Jennifer Bye for the final two innings.
The Jackrabbits get Friday off before returning to action, and to Summit League play, with a doubleheader at IUPUI on Saturday. The Jacks and Jags get started on Saturday in Indianapolis at 3 p.m. ET.
