JONESBORO, Ark. - South Dakota State's early season baseball struggles continued Sunday as the Jackrabbits were swept by Arkansas State, losing the finale of the three-game series by a 10-1 count.
The Jackrabbits dropped to 0-6, while ASU improved to 7-4.
The Red Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a run-scoring double by Zach George, then added four more runs against SDSU starter Adam Bray in the fourth inning. George led off the inning with a triple and scored on a single by Logan Uxa. Dustin Jones capped the scoring with a two-run single.
The Jackrabbits' lone run of the game came in the top of the sixth as Zach Briggs led off with a single, moved to third on a double by Daniel Telford and later scored on a wild pitch.
ASU ended any hopes of a Jackrabbit rally with a five-run sixth inning. Uxa, who was 3-for-4 to lead the Red Wolves' 14-hit attack, delivered a two-run single to highlight the inning.
Bray struck out five, walked three and allowed seven runs on nine hits in five innings of work. Freshmen Ty Walker and Aaron Klatt each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
The Jackrabbits continue their Spring Break trip Tuesday at Arkansas-Little Rock.
