All 14 Jackrabbits in uniform played at least five minutes and 13 of them scored at least two points as South Dakota State cruised to an 87-42 win over Chadron State on Monday night in front of 1,925 fans at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits improve to 2-2 with the win, while the Eagles fall to 1-2.
“I don't think Chadron State is that bad, I think our kids played well, I think defensively we were really sharp. The only thing I was bothered by in the first half was jus the rebounding, we gave up nine offensive rebounds,” head coach Scott Nagy said. “They missed 22 shots in the second half and they only rebounded four of them, so our kids did a better job. “
Those nine Eagle offensive rebounds in the first half resulted in eight second chance points, eight of the 12 first half points scored by the visitors, as they shot just 18.5 percent on 5 of 27 shooting in the half. SDSU, meanwhile, shot 46.4 percent in the half, 12 of 28, and led 36-12 at the break.
The Jacks continued the high offensive output in the second half, pushing the lead to as many as 48 points late in the game on Joshua White's first-career 3-pointer.
Four Jackrabbits made their collegiate debut in the contest and two others, including White and Cory Jacobsen, saw their first action of the season.
“I did think our guys that played the last eight minutes that aren't used to the playing time, I think they did a great job.” Nagy added. “I'm really proud of Cory; he's just an unbelievable teammate. I thought he played really well.”
Jake Bittle led four Jackrabbits in double figures with 12 points. Reed Tellinghuisen, Cody Larson and Skyler Flatten all added 11 points in the win. Ian Theisen led the Jacks with six rebounds to go with his four points.
Kendrick Holliman led the Eagles with 12 points and finished with a game-high nine rebounds in the loss.
The Jacks get a couple of days off for the Thanksgiving holiday, and then return to action on Sunday against Florida Gulf Coast at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls. The Jackrabbits and Eagles tip at 4 p.m. in a game that can be seen live on Fox Sports North.
