SDSU Preps for Bison Open

THE BISON OPEN: Fresh off of a strong outing at the Dak Open, SDSU will travel to Fargo for the Bison Open. A strong field will be heading to Fargo including heavy hitters such as #1 Minnesota and #18 Northern Iowa. In all 23 teams will be in competition including Concordia-Moorhead, Dakota Wesleyan, Dickinson State, Great Falls, Itasca CC, Jamestown, Mary, Midland, Minnesota West, Minot State, MSU-Moorhead, Northern State, Northland CC, Ridgewater, RCTC, Southwest Minnesota State, St. Cloud State, St. John's and St. Olaf, along with SDSU and host North Dakota State.
THIRD TIME'S A CHARM: Following his 4-0 performance at the Dak Open, Cody Pack was named the Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week. This marks the third time in Pack's career he has been named the WWC Wrestler of the Week as he won the award the weeks of January 28 and February 18 last season.
DAK RECAP: South Dakota State impressed in its season debut at the 22nd Annual Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open on Sunday. In all, the Jacks had two champions, six finalists, nine semifinalists and 11 placewinners. Redshirt freshman Colin Holler went 5-0 en route to the 149-lb championship, while returning NCAA qualifier #18 Cody Pack went 4-0 on his way to his first 157-lb Dak Open title. Pack's breakthrough came after dropping the title bout the previous two seasons. Brance Simms (133), Luke Zilverberg (141), Nate Rotert (197) and J.J. Everard (285) also made it to the finals.
BEEN HERE BEFORE: SDSU sent its redshirts to the Bison Open last season and brought home four placewinners. Hunter Weddington (197) and Brance Simms (133) took second, while Ben Schwery (174) and Luke Zilverberg (141) placed third and sixth, respectively.
SOCIALLY SUPREME - PART II: A year after being named the Best of Brand - Top Newcomer, @GoJacksWrestle took the next step in the social media game, winning the Best of Brand - Gold Standard for its relentless dedication to its #getjacked mantra. The “Gold Standard” is the highest award given at the conclusion of the season to the program which most effectively built their brand utilizing technology throughout the year, including social media, videos, and marketing campaigns. SDSU wrestling's presence on social media is based around it's video production, Jacked Up Monday and Jackrabbit Wrestling: All Access, which are released on Monday and Thursday, respectively. To compliment its video presence, coach Bono has also begun his own podcast, Get Jacked Weekly, which is released every Wednesday.
PROMOTIONS, PROMOTIONS, PROMOTIONS: The SDSU Athletic marketing staff has released the schedule of promotions for the 2014-15 wrestling season. They have established “Reader's Rowdies” - which will serve as the student section for home duals. Other promos include:

• 2/14 - hustle and tussle
• 2/22 - tv giveaway
OLYMPIC HOPEFUL: Assistant coach Jon Reader continues to train for the 2016 Olympic Games, while also fulfilling his responsibilities on staff. Reader's competition schedule has him competing at the Bill Farrell International Open (Nov. 9 - New York City), Minnesota Storm Holiday Cup (Dec. 20 - Rochester, Minn.), Yasar Dogu (Mar. 28-29 - Istanbul, Turkey), U.S. Open (May 7-9 - Las Vegas, Nev.), U.S. World Team Trial (June 12-14 - Madison, Wis.) and the World Championships (Sept. 7-12 - Las Vegas, Nev.).
