WACO, Texas — South Dakota State University running back Zach Zenner was named Monday to the 2014 AFCA Football Championship Subdivision Coaches' All-America Team for the third consecutive season by a vote of the members of the American Football Coaches Asssociation.
A native of Eagan, Minnesota, Zenner posted his third consecutive 2,000-yard season during his senior campaign, becoming the first player in FCS history to accomplish the feat. He finished the 2014 season with 2,019 yards on 337 carries (6.0 ypc) and 22 touchdowns, while adding 28 receptions for 331 yards and four more scores. Zenner topped the 100-yard mark in 11 of 14 games, including two performances of 200-plus yards in helping lead the Jackrabbits to their third consecutive berth in the FCS playoffs.
Zenner and Tennessee-Chattanooga defensive end Davis Tull joined a select group of three-time selections on the 25-player squad. The pair became the third and fourth FCS players to be three-time selections to the AFCA FCS All-America Team, joining Northwestern State (La.) linebacker Gary Reasons (1981-83) and Appalachian State (N.C.) linebacker Dexter Coakley (1994-96).
Other repeat honorees included Eastern Washington wide receiver Cooper Kupp, Southern Illinois tight end MyCole Pruitt and Portland State (Ore.) punter Kyle Loomis. A total of seven Missouri Valley Football Conference student-athletes were honored on the squad.
