INDIANAPOLIS -- South Dakota State played IUPUI to a double overtime match, resulting in a tie, 1-1, Sunday afternoon at Carroll Stadium.
The Jaguars were first to take advantage of a shot opportunity, making their goal only eight minutes into regulation. Krissy Kirkhoff drilled the ball from 18 yards out and scored the Jaguars lone goal.
SDSU answered with senior Diana Potterveld setting up the ball for freshman Brittany Jensen 16 minutes into play. Jensen took the shot, and scored her second goal of the season and of her career.
South Dakota State and IUPUI almost matched shot for shot, the Jacks taking 18 to the Jaguars 20. Both teams were unsuccessful in making a goal after the first half.
Junior Nicole Inskeep made seven saves for the Jacks, holding the score at 1-1.
After two scoreless overtimes, the game resulted in a tie. SDSU's record moved to 10-5-3 in the season, 5-1-2 in conference play. IUPUI's record now stands at 6-9-3, and 1-5-2 in The Summit League.
"It was a tough game today after a long road trip, but I am proud of the team for getting a result against a very good IUPUI team. Now all our focus is on Thursday's semi-final." said head coach Lang Wedemeyer.
The Jackrabbits have secured the third seed in The Summit League Championships, which will be held at Fishback Soccer Park. SDSU will play second-seeded Oral Roberts at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Top-seeded North Dakota State will meet fourth-seeded South Dakota at 6 p.m.
