KANSAS CITY, Mo. — South Dakota State scored a late second-half goal, however Kansas City equalized the margin just eight minutes later, as the Jackrabbits and Roos competed to a 1-1 draw at Durwood Soccer Stadium on Thursday.Â
Â
The Jackrabbits got out to a slow start as the Roos were the aggressors in the opening 45 minutes. Kansas City recorded 10 shots, with five on goal, as SDSU goalkeeper
Mallorie Benhart recorded five saves. The Jacks and Roos eventually went into halftime scoreless.Â
Â
SDSU was strong defensively to begin the second half and its play was rewarded in the 76th minute.Â
Â
The Jacks'
Mia Bosch sent a cross into the box that bounced in front of the charging Kansas City keeper in Anika Patton. The Roos keeper was unable to get to the ball in time as SDSU forward
Lauren Walter leapt in front of her. Walter booted it with her right foot into the net to give SDSU a 1-0 advantage.Â
Â
The two sides played a fairly quiet next eight minutes as SDSU in that frame attempted a single shot.Â
Â
In the 84th minute, Kansas City capitalized. The Roos sent a pass from their own side of the field and the deep ball found its way past the Jackrabbit back line. Kansas City was able to get possession inside the box and a pass to the top found its way to Olivia Platt who buried a strike for a goal to tie the score at 1-1.Â
Â
That shot was the only one on goal for the Roos in the second half. SDSU outshot Kansas City 8-3 in the final 45 minutes, but none were on goal in the remaining six minutes as the two foes ended in a 1-1 tie.
Â
South Dakota State is now 9-2-6 on the season as well as 3-1-3 in Summit League action. Kansas City stands at 8-6-3 overall (3-2-2).
