Upcoming Event: Men's Basketball versus Mayville State (Exhibition) on October 29, 2025 at 8:30 p.m.

11/12/2015 6:01:00 PM | Men's Basketball
For the first time since the 2011-12 season, South?Dakota State opens a season at home, which could be a good sign, as that Jackrabbits squad started the season with an 82-76 win over Western Michigan, and then capped the year with a Summit League Tournament title, and it's first-ever trip to the NCAA?Tournament at the Division I?level.
Future NBA?draft pick Nate Wolters led that talented group of Jackrabbits in 2011-12, and while the current squad may not boast a future NBA?player, the 2015-16 Jacks do return four starters from last year's Summit League regular season co-champions that went on to win the school's first-ever Division I postseason game, when they knocked off top-seeded Colorado State in the first round of the NIT by the score of 86-76 in Fort Collins.Â
With that much talent returning, the Jackrabbits open the season as the favorite to win The Summit League title as voted on by the league's coaches, sports information directors and select media. SDSU?garnered 30 of the 34 first place votes, followed by North Dakota State with three and Oral Roberts with one.
Along with being picked to win the league, SDSU landed three of the six players on the preseason all-league first team, as seniors Jake Bittle, George Marshall and Deondre Parks all earned first team nods.
THE OPPONENT
CHADRON STATE EAGLES (0-0, 0-0 Away): The Eagles, who did not play an exhibition game prior to tonight's contest, look to build on a 7-19 record from last season, which ended with four straight losses. Six of the team's seven wins came in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
THE SERIES vs. CHADRON STATE
The Jackrabbits won the first and only meeting in the series on Nov. 24, 2014 at Frost Arena by the score of 87-42. SDSU?led by as many as 48 points in the game, as all 14 Jackrabbits in uniform played at least five minutes and 13 of them scored at least two points in the dominating win.
