For the first time since the 2008-09 season, South?Dakota State opens a season with two consecutive home games, and for the first time since 1999-2000, the Jacks look to start a season with two straight home wins. SDSU beat Chadron State, 87-52, on Friday, and can make it 2-0 tonight against the Weber State Wildcats, who started the season on Friday with a 73-70 home loss to in-state rival Utah State.
Jake Bittle went 9 for 11 from the field overall and 4 for 6 from 3-point range for a career-high 23 points in leading the Jackrabbits to the win on Friday against Chadron State on Friday. Redshirt freshman Mike Daum added 15 points in his Jackrabbit debut, while Ian Theisen and Keaton Moffitt both added 10 points in the win. Moffitt also tied for game-high honors with Lane Severyn with eight rebounds, as the Jacks won the battle of the boards 47-37, including a 27-14 edge on the boards in the second half.
The Jackrabbits rolled in the season-opening win despite being without the services of senior guard Deondre Parks, who sat out the game due to injury, snapping a streak of 101 straight collegiate starts. He may return for tonight's game though.
