SDSU and CSU Clash for Mayan Division Title

CANCUN, Mexico – Off to its best start since the 2010-11 season when they started 6-0, South Dakota State looks to equal that mark on Wednesday, when they battle the Cleveland State Vikings in the Mayan Division Championship at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in Cancun, Mexico in the Cancun Challenge.
SDSU won the first two stateside games in the tournament, downing Illinois State, 83-67, last Thursday in Normal, Ill., and winning 76-67 at TCU on Saturday, and then added a dominating 92-68 win over Houston Baptist on Tuesday.
The Jacks continue to get balance scoring, as at least four Jackrabbits reached double figure scoring in all five games, with five reaching the mark at home against Weber State and at Illinois State.
THE OPPONENT
CLEVELAND STATE VIKINGS (2-2, 1-1 Neutral): Picked to finish seventh out of 10 teams in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, the Vikings look to rebuild this season after posting a 19-15 overall record and an 11-5 league record, which tied them for third place.
The Vikings, which lost four starters from last year's squad, opened the season with a 65-53 loss to Akron in Kent, Ohio, then came back with a 62-46 win over Division II foe Malone in their home opener. CSU then played its first stateside game of the Cancun Challenge at Rhode Island, a 73-45 loss, before beating Rider on Tuesday.
The Vikings play their second of two stateside games of the Cancun Challenge on Saturday at Maryland.
THE SERIES vs. CLEVELAND STATE
SDSU leads the all-time series 1-0, with an 82-78 win over the Vikings on Dec. 19, 1970 in Brookings, S.D.
