KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Mayan Division Championship of the Cancun Challenge under its belt, South Dakota State looks to close its five game, 11 day road trip with another on more win and return home with a perfect 7-0 on the season, which would mark its best-ever start at the Division I level, topping the 6-0 start in 2010-11.
The Jackrabbits won their first two stateside games in the Cancun Challenge, downing Illinois State, 83-67, on Nov. 19, in Normal, Ill., and winning 76-67 at TCU on Nov. 21. SDSU then posted a dominating 92-68 win over Houston Baptist on Tuesday in Cancun, followed by a 77-66 win over Cleveland State in the Mayan Division championship game on Wednesday.
The Jacks continue to get balance scoring, as at least four Jackrabbits reached double figure scoring in all six games, with five reaching the mark at home against Weber State and at Illinois State.
THE OPPONENT
KANSAS CITY KANGAROOS (3-2, 2-0 Home): Picked to finish third by the media and fourth by the coaches in the WAC Preseason Poll, the Kangaroos finished the 2014-15 season with a 14-19 overall record, but posted an 8-6 mark in WAC play, which tied them for second place.
The 'Roos picked up their first conference tournament win since 2007 at the WAC Tournament over Texas-Pan American, but fell in the semifinals to Seattle.
THE SERIES vs. KANSAS CITY
SDSU leads the all-time series 12-5, with wins in each of the last five meetings. SDSU won the last meeting, 81-61, at Frost Arena on Dec. 6, 2014, and won the last meeting at Municipal Auditorium, 65-60, on Dec. 28, 2013.
