INDIANAPOLIS – South Dakota State capitalized on a walk, passed ball and an error in the sixth inning to go up 1-0 on IUPUI in Saturday's rubber game of the three game series, but the Jaguars broke up Ashlyn Bender's no-nit bit in the bottom half of the frame and then added one more in the eighth to secure the 2-1 win.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 6-12 on the season overall and to 1-2 in The Summit League, while the Jaguars improve to 16-7 overall and to 2-1 in league play.
Bender struck out five and walked three in picking up the loss. She surrendered two runs on three hits in 7.2 innings pitched.
Devan Larsen and KayCee Miller got the lone hits for the Jacks, but the run came without the benefit of a hit, as Larson turned a walk into an unearned run after advancing to second on a passed ball, then scoring in the next at bat on an error.
The Jags got a pair of doubles in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 1-1, and then used a bases loaded sacrifice fly to walk off with the 2-1 win.
The Jackrabbits return to action on Wednesday in Marshall, Minn., with a doubleheader at Southwest Minnesota State at 2 p.m., and then opens the home schedule on Thursday with a doubleheader against Dakota Wesleyan at Jackrabbit Softball Stadium at 3 p.m.
