Win or lose, Saturday's game marks a historical meeting for both South?Dakota State and South Dakota, as they meet for the final time in the DakotaDome. Along with that, the winning coach also reaches a milestone, as Jackrabbits head coach Scott Nagy enters the game with 399 career wins, while Coyote head coach Craig Smith comes in with 99 career wins as a head coach. The teams tip in the milestone-laden affair at 4 p.m.
The Jacks enter the game fresh off an 86-74 win at Oral Roberts on Thursday that saw the return of senior Jake Bittle, who finished with eight points and five rebounds in his return to the lineup, and to his home state. George Marshall led the Jacks in the win with 18 points, with Mike Daum adding 15 points and a game-high 7 rebounds off the bench and Keaton Moffitt pitching in with 11 points, also off the bench.
Saturday's game marks the 216th overall meeting between the Jackrabbits and Coyotes, and the 30th and final meeting in the DakotaDome, as South?Dakota opens a new arena next season adjacent to the dome.
THE OPPONENT
SOUTH DAKOTA COYOTES (10-10, 2-4 Summit, 3-3 Home): The Coyotes opened Summit League play with a home loss to IUPUI, then bounced back with a win at Oral Roberts, only to drop its next three games before downing Western Illinois in their last outing on Wednesday.Â
THE SERIES vs. SOUTH DAKOTA
The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series 122-92-1, with the tie coming in a disputed contest in Brookings on March 12, 1915, in the fourth-ever meeting of the teams.
Today's game marks the final meeting in the DakotaDome, where the hosts hold an 18-11 overall advantage and an 8-5 edge in the Scott Nagy era.
