Exactly one year after the last meeting, South?Dakota State and Omaha close the first half of Summit League play on Thursday at Frost Arena with the top spot in the league standings on the line when the Jackrabbits and Mavericks tip at 7 p.m.
When Omaha came to Frost for the last meeting, they sat in a three-way tie for seventh in The Summit League Standings with a 2-5 record, while the Jacks stood atop the Summit with a 6-2 mark. This time, the Mavericks lead the league with a 6-1 record, with the Jacks close behind at 5-2, tied with both IUPUI?and Fort Wayne for second place in the league standings.Â
The Jacks return home after a pair of road wins last week, including an 86-74 win at Oral Roberts, when senior Jake Bittle returned to the lineup after missing seven games with an injury. The Oklahoma native finished with eight points and five rebounds in his return, playing 25 minutes. Bittle then 21 points two days later in a 79-75 win at South Dakota, but redshirt freshman Mike Daum stole the show in scoring a game-high and a career-high tying 23 points with a game-high 11 rebounds for his second-career double-double.
THE OPPONENT
OMAHA MAVERICKS (14-7, 6-1 Summit, 7-4 Away): The surprise team in the first half of league play, the Mavericks come to Brookings sitting atop The Summit League standings. Picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll, the Mavericks lone league loss to this point came in a 106-101 overtime shootout with Fort Wayne on Jan. 16, in Omaha.Â
THE SERIES vs. OMAHA
SDSU leads the all-time series 53-30 with a 27-13 advantage at Frost Arena and a 5-1 edge in Summit League play and wins in each of the last three meetings. Omaha's lone win in The Summit League era came on Jan. 18, 2014, an 80-71 win at Frost Arena.
