No. 3 seed South Dakota State
South Dakota State enters the weekend looking to shake off a 2-1 loss to IUPUI in the regular season finale, but carries experience and the history of back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances into the conference playoffs. SDSU went 10-7-1 (5-3 Summit League) in the regular season to finish tied for third in the standings, earning the No. 3 spot with a head-to-head tiebreaker against Denver. SDSU's
Nicole Hatcher ranks second in the conference with 21 points (six goals, nine assists) and she is tied for the team-lead for scores with
Tori Poole (12 points), who has six total goals for the season and five goals in the last six games.
Madison Yueill is also in double digits with 10 points, adding four goals and two assists to SDSU's season team totals of 29 and 21 for those two categories. In goal,
Maggie Smither (16 games, 3 goals allowed, 32 saves) has a conference-leading 0.36 goals against average while
Nicole Inskeep (18 games, 11 goals allowed, 20 saves) is second in the Summit League with a 1.06 goals against average. Earlier this season, the Jackrabbits had a winning streak of six consecutive games. The Jacks are the only team to have at least two wins against the other three teams in the tournament, going 3-0 in the regular season against NDSU, DU and ORU. SDSU also leads all three series all-time records. SDSU's history in the Summit League Tournament is available on page five of the game notes.

No. 4 seed Oral Roberts
Perhaps the hottest team in the Summit League at the end of regular season play, Oral Roberts carries a five-game winning streak into the tournament as it rebounded from a four-game losing streak early on in conference play to clinch a spot in the year-end playoffs. The last loss for ORU was a 5-1 defeat at the hands of South Dakota State in Brookings early in October. The Golden Eagles are 10-9-1 after the regular season, going 5-3 in conference play for 15 points. Lexi Jones leads the ORU offense with 21 points (10 goals, one assist) this season, tied for second best in the Summit League. Sierra Beall has 12 points (five goals, two assists) while Chloe Basnett is tied for third on the team with 10 points, tallying three goals and four assists. In net, Ryleigh Bohnenstiel has played a majority of minutes and has 57 saves with 22 goals allowed for a 1.37 goals against average.
Against South Dakota State, ORU trails in the all-time series, 8-1. The Golden Eagles last defeated the Jackrabbits in 2015 at home in a narrow 3-2 overtime contest. For the series, SDSU leads the goal-count, 20-5.

Last Time Out
South Dakota State saw its chances to lock up a No. 1 seed and a regular season championship at home slip through its grasps on Friday, Oct. 28, falling 2-1 to IUPUI despite a 21-shot advantage. Playing in front of a friendly, often spirited crowd at Fishback Soccer Park, the Jackrabbits (10-7-1, 5-3 Summit League) put up 26 shots and scored the game's first goal, but couldn't hold on as IUPUI (9-6-3, 3-2-2 Summit League) netted two unanswered off of five shots to keep its playoff hopes alive.
Ashley Adams and
Tori Poole each had five shots, with three and two on goal, respectively, while
Annie Williams (one on goal) had three looks and
Nicole Hatcher,
Madison Yueill and
Jennie Scislow each added two. Poole scored the Jackrabbits' lone goal off an assist from Hatcher.
Nicole Inskeep earned the start and
Maggie Smither (two saves) played the final 45, taking the loss as both keepers allowed a goal. Scoreless through the opening 20 minutes, the Jacks got on the board at 22:52 as Poole retreived a pass near the far post and found the net in a congested box. It was Poole's fifth goal of the year and Hatcher's conference-leading ninth assist on the season. That lead was short-lived, however, as IUPUI struck back less than a minute later when Maryna Clark fired a shot that deflected off the Jaguars' Catherine Raster for a score. All even at the half, the Jacks continued to dominate play, but saw itself fall into a deficit in the 65th minute IUPUI's Hayley Shelton beat Smither in the box on a challenge and scored. After Shelton's goal, SDSU went on a tear over the 10 minutes that saw five shot attempts and three corner kicks, but close as the Jacks came a goal was not to be found. Inside the final minute, South Dakota State had two more equalizing opportunities, but Hatcher's rocket from inside the box was blocked by a defender. On the rebound, Adams' finesse shot from the top left corner of the box saw IUPUI's Catherine Schmidt elevate in goal to tip the ball above the crossbar with 30 seconds to go and SDSU's fate was sealed.

Eyes on the Prize
Despite going winless through the opening two games, the Jackrabbits have proven over the years it's not how you start, but how you finish. Since joining the NCAA Division I ranks in 2004, SDSU has gone 0-2 to open a season six times but has finished with a losing record just once, earning a trip to the NCAA College Cup in two of the seasons that began 0-2.
