IOWA CITY, Iowa—Senior
Joel Reichow finished third overall to lead the Jacks to a sixth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Midwest Region Championships Friday at Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
Â
"I thought we ran great today," said 13
th-year head coach
Rod DeHaven. "Obviously, I'm very, very proud of Joel [Reichow]. And as a team, if you look at the final results, Bradley beats us by about 14 seconds. Were basically right with them. We're not far behind Iowa State, who is ranked 13
th in the country. You take where these guys were in high school, there's no way you would have thought that they could have done that. We're a top-40 team nationally. I'm just extremely proud of their effort."
Â
The Jackrabbits got off to a bit of a slow start. At the midway point, the Jacks were in 15
th place. After making up a little bit of ground on the rest of the field, SDSU was in ninth with 1,000-meters to go. They ended up passing Minnesota, Kansas and Oklahoma to secure sixth place—tying their best-ever finish at the Midwest Regional. The Jacks finished with 154 points.
