KISSIMMEE, Fla. – South Dakota State senior Devan Larsen smacked her 26th career home run on Thursday against Creighton in the Rebel Spring Games, setting a new SDSU record in the process, but the Bluejays battled back to win the game 4-3.
Larsen, who also owns the SDSU single-season record with 16 home runs last year, breaks the career record, set by Steph Kuhl, who hit 25 dingers from 2004-07.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 6-16 on the season, while Creighton avenges a 1-0 loss to the Jacks on Tuesday, and improves to 14-9.
Trailing 1-0 into the top of the fourth inning, Jordyn Sturgeon hit a two out single to bring up Larsen, who hit the record-breaking homer to give SDSU a 2-1 lead.
The Bluejays got that run back in the bottom of the inning, and then added two more in the fifth to go up 4-2 after five complete.
Freshman Abbey Murphy led off the sixth inning with her second home run of the season to cut the CU lead to 4-3, but the rally would fall short and the Jacks went down in order in the seventh to end the game.
The Jacks look to get back in the win column in a 10:15 a.m. game against Holy Cross.
