LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- South Dakota State University wrestler Seth Gross won his first two matches at the UWW Junior Freestyle Nationals Friday to advance to the quarterfinal round at the South Point Convention Center.
Gross, who is representing the Jackrabbit Wrestling Club in the tournament, won both of his matches in the 60-kilogram weight class on Friday by technical fall. The Apple Valley, Minnesota, native defeated Jordan Reich of Princeton AWS, 10-0, before defeating William Ernest of the Missouri Wrestling Foundation, 15-4. Gross is scheduled to wrestle Kaden Gfeller of Team BIG in Saturday's quarterfinals..
Also wrestling in the tournament for the Jackrabbits was Kasey Klapprodt in the 74-kilogram weight class. The Rapid City native lost by fall in 53 seconds to Joseph Tavoso of Princeton AWS in his opening-round match on Friday.
Champions this weekend will automatically advance to the finals of the UWW Junior World Team Trials, May 20-22, also in Las Vegas, for a chance to represent the USA at the Junior World Championships this summer in France.
