South Dakota State women's soccer had three breakaway goals and took down an unbeaten Drake squad, 3-0, in its final non-conference game of the 2016 regular season.

SDSU (5-4-1) has now won three straight after outshooting the Bulldogs (7-1-1), 10-9, for the game and posting its fourth shutout of the year.

"It's always good to come out and win at home," head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. "I thought the team played really well and finished some good opportunities. All-in-all I think it was the best weekend of soccer we've played all season."

Nicole Hatcher led the team with a goal and an assist for the day, moving her season points total to a team-leading nine. Carina McLennan and Hannah Evans notched their first career goals at SDSU in the game while Shelby Raper added her third assist of the year.

Maggie Smither (3-0-1) earned the start in goal and recorded two saves. Nicole Inskeep played the second half with one save. On the defensive end, McKenzie Wolf played all 90 minutes for the Jacks as she, Ashley Adams, Lindsee Larson and Alexa Hepner were starters on the shutdown back line.

On a breakaway in the 23rd minute, Raper dribbled into the box from the left side and shook the keeper by sliding a low cross to Hatcher near the far post, where the Jackrabbit forward netted her second goal of the year.

SDSU pushed its lead to two 10 minutes later as McLennan notched her first career score at 33:23. On the far side of the field, Lamb fired a cross to the left post where McLennan was waiting and pushed her shot past a diving keeper.

Over the final 10 minutes of the first period, SDSU saw Drake even the shot battle evened at 4-4 with three efforts in that span, but stood strong in the defensive end to lead 2-0 at the break.

Out of the break, back-and-forth play carried the teams through a majority of the half until SDSU added another insurance goal at 82:43. On a counter attack, Hatcher took the ball down the left side of the field and crossed it to a near-wide open Evans who was streaking towards the top right corner of the box. As the keeper came out to challenge Evans, the sophomore transfer scored her first goal in a Jackrabbit uniform by ripping a shot into the upper right corner of the net.

Game Notes

South Dakota State is now 5-1-0 in games it scores first.
The Jacks are on a season-long winning streak of three games. The last three-game win streak for SDSU was Oct. 10-14, 2015 in wins over Omaha, Denver and South Dakota.
Nicole Hatcher has now recorded points in three consecutive games, scoring and assisting against Green Bay and Drake and assisting against UMKC.
South Dakota State has now scored three or more goals on four occasions this season, the highest total in that category since 2014 when the team had six three-plus goal games.
With the win, the Jacks secured a winning non-conference regular season record for the fifth time since joining NCAA Division I. SDSU last had a winning non-conference regular season record in 2013.

The Jackrabbits are off until the start of October, when Summit League play begins at Fort Wayne on Oct. 1. From there, SDSU will return home for a pair of conference games Oct. 7 and 9.
