TULSA, Oklahoma—Junior
Sierra Peterson led the South Dakota State volleyball team on offense, but it lost a 3-0 Summit League match to league-leading Oral Roberts Sunday afternoon in front of 314 fans.
The Jackrabbits (2-22, 0-11) lost 25-12, 25-15 and 25-18 to the Golden Eagles (13-10, 10-1).
Peterson led the team with nine kills and hit .269 for the match. Sophomore
Ashlynn Smith added seven kills and senior
Ellie Benson had seven digs.
Laura Milos led Oral Roberts with match highs of 13 kills and 10 digs.
Turning Points
In the first set, the Jackrabbits battled to a 9-7 score, but then gave up a 16-5 run.
The Jackrabbits had an early 3-1 lead in the second set before Oral Roberts used a 13-3 run to take a 14-6 lead. State cut it to 16-10 with a pair of kills from Peterson and one from Smith. The Golden Eagles then outscored SDSU 9-5 for the win.
Peterson's eighth kill of the match tied the set at 8-8. ORU then used a 7-2 run to take a 15-10 lead in the third set. The Jackrabbits pulled within three at 17-14 after a Smith kill, but the Golden Eagles closed the set on an 8-4 run.
Notables
- Mattison Munger has 1,994 career assists, six from 2,000 career assists at SDSU.
- Ellie Benson's seven digs today put her 16 digs shy of 1,000 for her career. She now has 984.
