BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Jackrabbits handed the Kansas City Roos their first conference loss of the season Thursday night, winning 3-1.
The Jackrabbit offense ran through Sylvie Zgonc as usual; the senior put up 24 kills on 49 swings, hitting .388 for the night. Rylee Martin pulled the strings for the Jacks offense, putting up 39 assists through four sets, while adding two kills and three blocks alongside 11 digs. Brooke Larsen closed the show in the fourth set, adding six aces, with five coming in an 11-0 Jackrabbit run to end the match.
For the Roos, Ryanne Wattree and Emery Brown led the way with 13 and 18 kills, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1: The first set featured back-and-forth runs by both squads, with SDSU getting out to a 3-0 lead, before the Roos rattled off a 5-0 run in response. The Roos were able to extend their lead to 11-6 before the Jacks came rallying back, evening the score at 14-14 before forcing the media timeout on a
Joslyn Richardson ace. The two teams continued to trade points before SDSU put together an impressive 3-0 run late in the set to take the set, 25-23.
Set 2: The Jacks were able to take control of the second set early, putting together a 3-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. But the Roos would not go quietly, putting together a couple of pairs of points to cut the deficit to 11-10. SDSU forced the media timeout with a 15-11 lead, but the Roos came out firing after the timeout and took a 23-20 lead late in the set. With their backs against the wall, the Jacks rattled off a 4-0 run to fend off the Roos before
Sylvie Zgonc put down a kill and ace to secure the set, 26-24.
Set 3: Set three was all Kansas City. The Roos got out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back, forcing the media timeout at 15-11 before rattling off two 4-0 runs to take a set off the Jacks, 25-13.
Set 4: The Jacks responded emphatically in the fourth set, taking an early 7-1 lead and forcing Kansas City to use both of their timeouts before the 15-point mark. Kansas City fought back, but the Jacks forced the media timeout up, 15-9. From there, the Jacks rattled off an 11-0 run, featuring five
Brooke Larsen aces and three
Hannah Klein kills, to secure the set, 25-9, and the match, 3-1.

- Sylvie Zgonc and Rylee Martin both recorded double-doubles, Zgonc in kills and digs and Martin in assists and digs.
- Brooke Larsen set a new career high in aces with six, bringing her season total to 10.
