FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Sophomore
Ashlynn Smith led the South Dakota State volleyball in kills, but it wasn't enough as the Jackrabbits lost a 3-0 Summit League match Saturday night at Fort Wayne in front of 646 fans.
The Jackrabbits (2-25, 0-14) lost 25-17, 25-12 and 25-21 to the Mastodons (12-18, 4-10).
Smith had 12 kills and hit .243 for the match. Freshman
Macy Smith added seven kills while rookie
Hanna Jellema had six kills and eight digs. Senior
Ellie Benson had a team-high 13 digs.
Fort Wayne was led by Nicole Rightnowar's 16 kills and 14 digs.
Turning Points
In the first set, junior
Payton Richardson's solo block pulled the Jackrabbits to within one, 13-12. Fort Wayne then finished the set on a 12-5 run.
South Dakota State had a 7-6 lead in the second set, but Fort Wayne used an 18-5 run for the win.
The Jackrabbits battled in the third set and was within one point multiple times, the last 19-18 after junior
Mattison Munger's kill. Fort Wayne ended the set on a 6-3 run.
Notables
Mattison Munger recorded four set assists tonight. She now enters next season with 1,998 career assists, two from 2,000 career assists at SDSU.
