South Dakota State heads for George Town, Grand Caymans this week for the 2017 Cayman Islands Classic. The three-day, eight-team tournament is in its inaugural season and runs Nov. 20-22.

The Jackrabbits take on Wyoming in a first-round game Monday at 1:30 p.m. before taking on either Iowa or Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday.

About South Dakota State
The Jackrabbits are 3-1 to start the year after picking up wins over UC Irvine, Mary and Alabama State through the season's opening week before a 98-64 loss at No. 4 Kansas their last time out.

SDSU entered the 2017-18 campaign as the Summit League's preseason top pick after earning the league's automatic bid a year ago to the NCAA Tournament. The Jackrabbits return four starters and eight letterwinners from a year ago, with seven newcomers on the roster.

The Summit League Preseason Player of the Year
Mike Daum is the nation's top returning scorer and is off to another fast start, averaging a team-best 21.3 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per contest. He has three double-doubles in the first four games of the campaign.

David Jenkins Jr. has established himself as a go-to scorer just three games into his college career, dropping 13-11-20-10 in consecutive games. He sits second on the team with a 14.8 scoring average.

Reed Tellinghuisen is adding 9.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a senior, while
Tevin King has started all four contests and has seven assists, 24 rebounds and 29 points.

Brandon Key is running the point in an efficient manner, scoring five points in each of the first three games with a 5.2 assists per game average. Key holds a 1.7 assists-to-turnover ratio thus far.

As a team, South Dakota State is plus-7.5 in rebounds per game and holds a 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio combined. Opponents have a 0.9 assist-to-turnover ratio against the Jacks.

Wyoming is 2-0 to start the year after wins over Chattanooga and Oregon State.

Hayden Dalton leads the team with averages of 26 points and 11 rebounds per game, hitting nine 3-pointers in two games. Fellow big man Alan Herndon is averaging double figures as well, putting up 12 points per game with 10 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Justin James is averaging 10.5 points per game with a 4.0 rebounding average as a guard.

Wyoming is putting up 74.5 points per game through two contests while holding opponents to 65.5 points on average. The Cowboys are shooting 46 percent as a team from the field and 78 percent at the charity stripe.

Last Friday's matchup with Kansas was the first of three Power Five matchups for the Jackrabbits this season, with Ole Miss and Colorado still on the docket.

South Dakota State has five wins over Power Five programs since joining The Summit League in 2007, picking up wins over Iowa State (2008), Iowa (2010), Washington (2011), TCU (2015) and Minnesota (2015).

Jacks 13th in Mid-Major Poll
After earning the No. 14 spot in College Sport Madness' Preseason Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the Jacks moved up one spot to No. 13 in the most recent rankings after starting the year 2-0.
2017-18 opponents UC Irvine, North Dakota and South Dakota are receiving votes in the poll.

SDSU Signs Three
Owen King, Aaron Fiegen and Matthew Mimms signed their National Letters of Intent to join South Dakota State, announced Nov. 11 on National Signing Day.
- King (Caledonia, Minnesota) averaged 19 points, five rebounds and six assists per game as a junior for Caledonia High School. He enters his senior season as the school's all-time leading scorer (1,925 points)
- Fiegen (Madison, South Dakota) was a First Team All-State pick last year, averaging 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 2016-17.
- Mimms (Fairfax, Iowa) is a two-time Iowa State Champion with Xavier High School. He averaged 15.5 points, five assists and 2.3 steals per game as a junior.

Preseason All-Conference Team; Jacks Picked First
Mike Daum and
Reed Tellinghuisen made repeat appearances on the Summit League's Preseason All-League teams, announced early-October. Daum was the Preseason Player of the Year with First Team honors while Tellinghuisen picked a Second Team nod for the second straight season.

Daum is the second Jackrabbit to be named Preseason All-Conference and the first to do it twice, joining Nate Wolters (2012-13).

As a team, South Dakota State was picked to win the league for the fourth time in program history.

South Dakota State's 3-point offense ranked among the nation's best last season (tied for 27th), with the team setting school records in attempts (883) and makes (318).

The Jacks had three players that hit 60 or more 3-pointers last season, including two returners in

Reed Tellinghuisen (74). That duo ranked 13th nationally among active returning duos in combined 3-pointers from a year-ago.

South Dakota State tied the school record for 3-pointers made in a single game Nov. 14, 2017 against Alabama State. Since the arrival of

The Jackrabbits fired 35 3-pointers against UC Irvine in the season opener, a total that ranks third all-time for a single game at SDSU. The Ozelberger era now have the top four spots in the record books for 3-point attempts.

The Jacks own a 77-5 record at Frost Arena over the last six seasons dating back to 2011-12, which includes perfect home records in four of the last five years entering the current season. That span includes two home winning streaks of 30 or more games.
- South Dakota State won 34 consecutive games from Jan. 30, 2014 to Dec. 28, 2016. It ended as the nation's second longest active streak.
- The Jackrabbits won 30 consecutive home games from Jan. 29, 2011 to Nov. 14, 2013.
- SDSU put together undefeated seasons inside Frost Arena the following years: 1984-85 (18-0), 2002-03 (17-0), 2011-12 (14-0), 2012-13 (13-0), 2014-15 (13-0), and 2015-16 (12-0).

The Jacks are fifth in total career points as a pair as of Nov. 17, 2017 and fourth nationally in scoring average from a year ago.

Winning the rebounding battle was key to the Jackrabbits' success last season, as the team was 16-1 when out-rebounding its opponent. In games the team had the same or fewer rebounds, however, SDSU held a 2-16 mark.

This season, the Jacks are 2-1 when winning the rebounding battle and 1-0 when being out-rebounded.

Tacoma, Washington native
David Jenkins Jr. has burst on the scene through his first week of collegiate basketball, racking up 59 points and 13 3-pointers through four games.

The lone West coach native on the Jackrabbit roster has reached double figures in the each of the first four games, becoming the first freshman to accomplish the feat at SDSU since Steven Holdren did it in 2004-05. Holdren scored in double figures the first five games of his collegiate career.

Jenkins and Holdren are also the only two Jackrabbit freshmen to lead the team in scoring in their first collegiate game over the last 17 years (dating back to 2000-01 when game-by-game stats were readily available).

Jenkins is second on the team with a 14.8 points per game average in 2017-1 and has shot 41 percent from long distance.

Holding the Key
Incoming junior transfer
Brandon Key will be crucial to the Jackrabbit success this season, inheriting the starting point guard spot after the departure of last-year's graduate transfer Michael Orris.

Key averaged over seven assists per game last season at Southwest Tennessee Community College, ranking fifth in NJCAA.

He was named as a newcomer to watch in the league by TheAthletic.com's John Rohde in preseason and in the season opener scored five points with a team-high four assists, committing just one turnover.

Daum Named to Award Watch Lists
Mike Daum has earned a spot on three national award watch lists for the 2017-18 season, being named a preseason favorite for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year, Oscar Robertson Player of the Year and Lute Olson Player of the Year awards.
- The Karl Malone Award is presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Named after Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Karl Malone, the annual honor in its fourth year recognizes the top power forwards in Division I men's college basketball. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2018 Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award will be narrowed to just 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Mr. Malone and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner of the 2018 Karl Malone Award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 6, 2018.
- Daum was selected as one of 32 players on the 2017-18 Oscar Robertson Trophy Preseason Watch List, announced Nov. 6 by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. The award is presented to the national player of the year by its namesake at the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio. In mid-March, the USBWA will announce its 2017-18 All-America Team and, at that time, finalists will also be chosen for the player of the year. Once finalists are announced, the entire USBWA membership will vote for the winner of the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
- He was announced as one of 40 selections on the CollegeInsider.com Lute Olson Award Watch List Nov. 6 as well. The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation's top Division I player who has played at least two seasons. The 2017-18 Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award will be announced on March 31, 2018 at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Event in San Antonio, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.

- South Dakota State is now 14 wins away from the program's 1,500th victory. The Jacks won their 500th game in Frost Arena last season.
- 2017-18 marks the third time State has started 3-0 at the Division I level (dating back to transition year of 2004-05). The Jacks also did it in 2010-11 and 2015-16, when the team started an Division I-best 6-0.

Mike Daum posted his third double-double of the season, but a hot-shooting, nationally-ranking Kansas Jayhawk team dealt the South Dakota State Jackrabbits a 98-64 loss Friday at Phog Allen Fieldhouse.

SDSU (3-1) out-rebounded the Jayhawks, 41-32, but Kansas (3-0) shot 60.7 percent from the field with 13 3-pointers compared to the Jackrabbits' 32.8 field goal percentage.

Daum led the way for State with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, while
Tevin King just missed a double-double of his own, finishing with 12 points and eight boards.

David Jenkins Jr. was third in team scoring with 10 points while
Reed Tellinghuisen and
Chris Howell added seven apiece.

A 13-2 scoring run by the Pokes with six minutes remaining carried Wyoming to a 75-66 road win over Oregon State in Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore., on Monday evening. The Pokes, who trailed by six points in the second half improve to 2-0 on the season with the Beavers falling to 1-1.

The Cowboys trailed 59-58 with 6:20 remaining, but an 11-2 run lead by six points from junior guard Justin James and five from senior forward Alan Herndon put the Pokes in the driver seat, as UW won their first contest at a PAC-12 opponent since the 2011-12 season, when UW beat Colorado.

Herndon recorded 16 points tying a career-high with four three pointers. He also recorded a career-best six blocks, the most for a Poke since Larry Nance, Jr. recorded six against New Mexico on Jan. 8, 2014.
Senior Hayden Dalton led all scorers with 22 points on the night. He went 7-of-10 from the field with four three pointers. He led the Pokes with nine rebounds on the night. James added 19 points for the Cowboys including going 7-of-11 from the free throw line.

Wyoming moves to 22-1 when leading at the half under Edwards. The Pokes shot 51 percent from the field going 26-of-51. Defensively, UW held OSU to 41 percent from the field. The Cowboys held the advantage on the glass 35-33.

The Pokes got out to an early 6-2 lead thanks to four points from James. The Preseason All-Mountain West selection doubled his point total from the opening game of the season in that span, as he played only 13 minutes against Chattanooga. He played 29 minutes against the Beavers.

The Pokes extended the lead to 12-7 thanks to freshman guard Hunter Maldonado. After James scoring surge, Maldonado scored added six points to help the Pokes maintain their advantage. He also found Herndon on a lob dunk that was Wyoming's first flush of the season.

A 6-0 run by Oregon State gave the Beavers their first lead of the game at 13-12 at 11:44 mark of the first half. The Pokes were dominating the glass through the first ten minutes of the contest with a 15-4 advantage. That momentum helped Wyoming to solid transition basketball and hot shooting from the hand of Dalton making it a 23-18 game with eight minutes remaining in the half. He finished the first stanza with 16 points.

Dalton and Herndon hit triples to advance the UW lead to nine points at 31-22 with a little over five minutes remaining in the half. The Pokes held off Oregon State late in the frame to take a 40-36 advantage into the half. Alfred Hollins hit a three pointer to close the stanza for the Beavers.

A 7-0 run to open the second half gave the Beavers a 43-40 lead. Oregon State, who shot 42 percent from the field in the opening half connected on their first four shots of the second period to build a 48-43 lead into the first media timeout of the half.

The Pokes battled back to within one point at 48-47, but the Beavers held the Pokes scoreless for nearly five minutes to build a lead of six at 53-47. The Pokes battled back with a 7-3 run to take a 61-58 lead with a little over six minutes remaining. James added four-straight points to lead the surge for UW.

Herndon heated up with his fourth triple of the game and a dunk to build at Pokes lead of 66-60 with 4:44 remaining in the contest. James added four points late, as UW took the 75-66 win.

Oregon State was led by forward Tres Tinkle. He recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow forward Drew Eubanks added 17 points going 6-of-9 from the field.
