MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin—Virginia Tech's offense was too much as the South Dakota State volleyball team lost to the Hokies in three sets Friday night at the Pepsi Panther Invitational in Klotsche Center.
Â
The Jackrabbits (1-1) fell 25-16, 25-12 and 25-19. Virginia Tech (2-0) hit .402 for the match compared to SDSU's .116. The Hokies had nine service aces and collected six total blocks.
Â
For the second consecutive match, junior
Sierra Peterson led the Jackrabbits. She had six kills, two service aces, five digs, three block assists and hit .308.
Â
Turning Point
The Jacks gave up an 8-1 run in the first set and couldn't pass the ball well enough throughout the match to run their offense. The closest State got was in the third set when Peterson had a kill and then teamed with freshman
Macy Smith for a block. Virginia Tech had a hitting error and sophomore
Makenzie Hennen had a solo block to put State within two, 15-13.
Â
It was over when…
Virginia Tech closed the match outscoring South Dakota State, 5-3, down the stretch.
Â
They said it…
"Serve receive was a struggle for us and Virginia Tech was able to capitalize on us being predictable," third-year head coach
Nicole Cirillo said.
