OMAHA, Nebraska—The South Dakota State volleyball team lost in three sets to Omaha Friday night in its Summit League opener in front of 680 fans at Baxter Arena.

The Jackrabbits (2-12, 0-1) lost 25-15, 25-17 and 25-15 to the Mavericks (4-10, 1-0).

Sophomore
Ashlynn Smith led the Jackrabbits with nine kills. Classmate
Makenzie Hennen added eight kills and hit a team-high .278. Senior
Ellie Benson recorded seven digs.

Abby Bergsten led Omaha with a match-high 15 kills and Mackenzie Horkey added 12 kills and 12 digs.

Turning Point
In the first set, the Jackrabbits tied the set early, 7-7, after a block by Hennen and freshman
Macy Smith. Omaha then went on a 12-3 run to take a 19-10 lead. SDSU pulled within six, 20-14, but the Mavericks closed the set on a 5-1 run.

SDSU was within two points in the second set, 12-10, but UNO outscored the Jacks 8-3 for a 20-13 lead. Omaha outscored the Jackrabbits 5-4 to lead 2-0 in the match.

Omaha opened the final set on a 12-4 run. SDSU got as close as 17-10 on a Mavericks error, but UNO won with two kills in the final four points.

Notables
- Mattison Munger recorded 15 set assists tonight. She now has 1,899 career assists, 66 from moving into ninth in career assists at SDSU.
- Ellie Benson registered her 850th career dig. She now has 851.
