CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - South Dakota State track and field returns home from Northern Iowa with more personal bests, a few school top-10 marks, and a school record.

Highlight the performance at the Mark Messersmith is senior
Colton Bender. He finally broke the school record after sitting number two on the list since the SDSU Classic last indoor season. He launched a throw that increased his personal-best mark by 7.50 inches. As of Saturday afternoon, his mark ranks 37th in the country.

Abby Sudbeck has been increasing her weight throw PR since the beginning of the season. In the opening meet, she notched a school's sixth best mark all-time (57-07.50). Since then, she has been inching closer the fifth spot of 58-10.75. Last weekend she made another stride closer, tossing the weight throw 58-02.50, 8.25 inches away. This weekend Sudbeck gets another step closer, recording a new PR, but still sixth all-time, 58-08.75. The Mitchell, S.D. native is two inches away from finally moving up.

Mason Leiseth recorded his new indoor PR in the shot put of 52-04.75. He claims the season-best throw among Jacks. The mark is also good enough for ninth all-time on the school's top 10, just edging out teammate, redshirt freshman
Max Reinke to 10th all-time.

Emma Stewart and
Emily Altenburg, who notched PR's in the long jump. Stewart increased her best by 4.75 inches, while Altenburg increased hers by 1.75 inches. Stewart is 4.25 inches from cracking the school's all-time top 10 list.

Jaymie O'Connor posted her season-best mark in the prelims of the 60m hurdles, just 0.09 seconds away from tying her career-best time. In the finals, she was able to shave another 0.03 seconds off her time to make her season best mark sit at 8.67 seconds, 0.06 seconds away from her PR.

Savannah Dolezal has now finished top three in every 400m race she has competed in this season so far (third time), making it her eighth career top-three finish.

The Jackrabbit track and field teams will split next weekend when some of the team travels to the Husker Invitational, hosted by Nebraska, and the others will go to the Dakota Realty Invitational hosted by South Dakota.

In two weeks, the Jacks will be back home in the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex hosting the SDSU Classic on Feb. 9-10. There will be 40-plus schools there with over 1,500 athletes. FloTrack will be broadcasting the two-day event online.

Hieber improved his 60m hurdles time yet again, making it the third straight weekend having a PR in the event. He has trimmed his PR down every weekend of competition this season from 9.49 seconds last season. He has the best time among the other Jackrabbit heptathlon athletes.
The Sioux Falls, S.D. native, also posted 42-02.75, a personal best, in the shot put. The throw was 1-07.00 feet better than his indoor best (40-07.75) and 1-03.25 feet better than his overall best (40-11.50, outdoor PR). It is his second time this season winning the shot put competition in the heptathlon, third time in his career.

The last event personal best of the day was in the pole vault. His mark of 13-03.50 was 1-05.75 feet better than his previous best (11-09.75, indoor & overall PR). His jump ranks best among Jackrabbit multi athletes and third best on the whole team.

Bates was stuck on 7.45 in the first two attempts of the race, one of them being in the first meet of the 2018 campaign. The mark today of 7.37 finally broke the 7.45 barrier, which is 0.08 seconds better.

The Waverly, Iowa native, was close to reaching his 60m hurdles career best, missing it by 0.03 seconds. However, it is a season-best time by 0.10 seconds in five attempts this season.

Another event close to a career best was the 1,000m. He beat his season-best mark by 2.18 seconds and just 0.89 seconds short of tying his career best.

The Aberdeen, S.D. native, also tied two personal bests in the UNI-Dome. Brockel jumped 5-09.75 in the high jump and 10-11.75 in the pole vault to tie his first marks in the events from the SDSU Holiday Open.
