MEETS 8: South Dakota State (Men & Women) host SDSU Indoor Classic |

South Dakota State is set to host one of the biggest meets of the 2018 indoor campaign, the SDSU Indoor Classic, on February 9-10.

It will entertain over 40 schools with more than 1,400 student-athletes over the weekend, including teams like Northern Iowa and Drake.

Ticket Information
The price for admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 3-17. South Dakota State students with a valid I.D. get in to the SJACÂ for free.

Friday will begin with the women's unseeded weight throw (Flights 1, 2, 3, 4) and the men's unseeded shot put (Flights 1, 2, 3) at 2 p.m. for the field events.

Other field events starting at 2 p.m. include the women's long jump and high jump, and the men's pole vault.
Â
Track events will also get underway at 2 p.m. as well with the women's distance medley. The men's distance medley will follow at approximately 2:20 p.m.

Friday's last scheduled events are the 4x800m relays. The relays for the women are scheduled at 9:05 p.m. while the men's 4x800m relay will begin a 9:20 p.m.

Saturday's action will begin with the women's first heat of the 5,000m race at 9 a.m. The men's first heat of the 5,000m will follow the women and begin around 9:25 a.m.

Field events will begin at 11 a.m. for both the men's and women's teams. Men will start at the seeded weight throw (Flights 3, 4, 5), while the women will begin with the seeded shot put (Flights 4, 5, 6).

Also starting at 11 a.m., is the women's triple jump and pole vault, and the men's high jump.
Â
The last scheduled event on Saturday is the 4x400m relays. The women will start the relays at approximately 4:55 p.m. The men will follow the women with the scheduled start time of 5:25 p.m.

Head coach
Rod DeHaven announced that he would be offering 100 dollars to the fastest South Dakota State student on campus on Saturday at
1:55Â p.m.

It is a 60m race (2-3 Heats) among the fastest students on campus. Plan on arriving at
1:25Â p.m. to the infield to check-in and sign a waiver.

You must be a current student with a valid student I.D., and you can't be a college student-athlete or a previous college student-athlete.

For the throwing events, pay attention to the day a particular flight is assigned.
The sequence of the 5,000m races and 3,000m races. For
600m races and further distance races, they will run
slow to fast, the
200m & 400m will run
fast to slow.
We will not go more than 5 minutes ahead of schedule. If we get behind we will still give our officials a break as designated on the schedule.

Ranked Jackrabbits
In week three of the USTFCCCA.org rankings, the Jackrabbits saw themselves ranked in the top 25 of the Midwest Region for both men and women. The men remained 22nd in the region for the second consecutive week while the women climbed up four spots to 25th.

Individually, State has three student-athletes ranked in the top eight of their respective events.

Sophomore
Bryant Courter is ranked sixth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump, where he reset the school record twice this season. It is his third straight week being ranked regionally in both events.

Senior
Colton Bender joined Courter in week two, ranking eighth in the weight throw. This week, he moved up to seventh with another personal-best, and school record, in the weight throw.

On the women's side, junior
Rachel King etched her name in the top eight from last weekend's performance in the 3,000m. She is seventh on the list with her season-best performance, which was 2.32 seconds away from her personal-best and school record.

During the first weekly release of the rankings, junior
Krista Steele was fourth in the 800m race, recording her personal-best mark in the event and the school's second-fastest all-time mark.

The USTFCCCA also has EventSquad Rankings released weekly. EventSquad Rankings are rankings of each team by event. They calculate the team positioning by grouping the school's top four athletes in each event and ranking them against other schools.

The men's team had two squads ranked in the top 35 of division I. Men's shot put is 32nd behind junior
Mason Leiseth's throw of 53-09.00, which is tied for fourth on the school's all-time list.

The men's high jump was ranked 34th in this week's release. Sophomore
Bryant Courter, who has a jump of 6-06.75, leads the group. Senior
J.J. Hejna, junior
Riley Sears, and sophomore
Evan Hieber all recorded a season-best jump of 6-04.25.

The women's team has the pentathlon squad and the shot put squad ranked in the top 30. The multi-event group is ranked 15th, with senior
Vanessa Lane ranked 77th in the nation.

The shot put group is lead by junior
Kasie Vollmer, who is ranked 130th with her throw of 47-04.25, which is eighth best in school history. Freshman
Madeline Moorhouse and sophomore
Micayla TerWee are ranked in the top 220 of division I individually.

Sophomore
Oksana Covey shattered the 600m run record, with a mark of 1:32.53. Junior
Krista Steele finished second with a time of 1:33.92, which is still second on the all-time top 10 list.

Emily Donnay broke the 3,000m run school record and SJAC facility record at that point in the 2017 season, finishing in 9:35.72. Junior
Rachel King broke Donnay's record later in the year, at The Summit League Championships, finishing in 9:34.21.

Kendra Dykstra won the 1,000m run, finishing in a time of 2:53.81, which is good for second on the all-time top-10 list.

Savannah Dolezal posted a personal-best in the 400m run, finishing in 56.63, which moves her into third on the all-time top-10 list.

In the 200m run, Sophomore
Landon Larson posted a time of 21.88, which ranks third on the all-time top-10 list.

Colton Bender threw a personal-best distance, at the time, of 65-03.25 in the men's weight throw. It was ranked second on the school's all-time list.

Bryant Courter set personal-best in the triple-jump, at the time, (47-07.00) to move up to number seven on the top-10 list last year. This year, he reset the school record twice so far in the 2018 indoor season.

At the Husker Invite, junior
Rachel King recorded her season-best time of the season in the 3,000m, posting 9:36.53. It's her second consecutive win of the season in the event, which is her fourth all-time.

King was within 2.32 seconds of tying her PR, which is the school record.

Chase Cayo cracked the top 10 in his second 3,000m race attempt of the season (8:24.54). He is now 10th on the school's top 10 list by beating his previous-best by 7.53 seconds.

Krista Steele recorded a career-best time (2:10.98) in the 800m, improving her previous-best time, and the school's second-fastest mark all-time, by 0.02 seconds. She is still 1.67 seconds away from tying the school record held by teammate, sophomore
Oksana Covey.

Steele has nine career top-three finishes in the event, two this season.

At the Dakota Realty Invite, senior
Colton Bender recorded his personal-best mark for the second weekend in a row.

His mark this weekend is the new school record, pushing it to 66-06.50, which is 10.25 inches better than his previous-best and 11.00 inches better than second-best mark in school history.

It was also Bender's fourth consecutive top-three finish this season, winning three of the events. It's his 10th career top-three finish and fourth win.

Junior
Abby Sudbeck has finally broken the barrier from sixth on SDSU's all-time list to move up to third. She increased her career-best by 2-01.75 feet to make the chart jump.

Since the beginning of the season, her personal-best mark has grown by 5-05.00 feet.

It is Sudbeck's first career win in the weight throw and second time finishing in the top three in her career.

Mason Leiseth recorded a PR in the shot put, moving him up the school's top 10 list from ninth to fourth all-time. He is tied with alum Brad Alfred's 1978 shot put toss.

His father, Dave Leiseth is number three on SDSU's all-time list with a throw of 54-01.25 set in 1991.

Sophomore
Jaymie O'Connor recorded her fourth consecutive top-three finish this season, which is every meet she has competed in this season. It's her eighth career top-three finish in just two indoor seasons.
Up Next
The Jackrabbits will host their last indoor meet of the season, the SDSUÂ Last Chance Meet. It will be the final tune-up before The Summit League Championships hosted by North Dakota State.
