"Overall we battled tonight," said head coach

The Jacks trailed 20-13 in the first set when the Bison scored six unanswered points, including three kills from Burk, to cut the deficit to two points. The teams traded points until the Bison led just 24-23, but NDSU took the set, 25-23.
Â
The Jacks opened the second set with a 5-4 run, highlighted by two kills from Burk and Hennen, each, and one from Smith. However, several large runs later and the Bison had gained a 20-14 advantage. Five unanswered points lifted North Dakota State to a 25-14 second set win.
Â
The score was even at six-all in the third set when back-to-back kills by Thompson and one from Hennen gave the Jacks a 9-6 edge. State only continued to build on its lead from there. Holding a 23-21 advantage late in the set, kills by the senior duo of Smith and Hennen kept the Jacks alive in the match with a 25-21 third set victory.
Â
The Jackrabbits carried their momentum into the fourth set as three kills from Hennen, two by Burk and a Nerad service ace set the Jacks ahead 6-2. However a 9-2 run helped the Bison to regain the lead. The Jacks capitalized on a pair of Bison errors in addition to consecutive kills from Burk to take a 12-11 edge.
