South Dakota State University head football coach John Stiegelmeier announced Monday the addition of Jimmy Beal as running backs coach.
Â
"Coach Beal comes to South Dakota State with great experience and will be coaching a very talented group of backs," Stiegelmeier said. "He is a proven coach with great energy and sincere care for the student-athlete."
Â
Beal spent the past nine seasons at Northern Arizona University, where he primarily served as running backs coach. While on staff, the Lumberjacks made two Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances (2013, 2017), including falling to South Dakota State in the first round of the 2013 postseason.
Â
He also assisted on special teams and served as pro liaison and camp director at NAU.
Â
Beal began his coaching career as wide receivers and running backs coach at Rocky Mountain College before moving on to Texas State as a graduate assistant.
Â
At SDSU, Beal will work with a position group that returns its top two rushers in Pierre Strong, Jr. (1,116 yards, 11 touchdowns) and Mikey Daniel (630 yards, 10 touchdowns), along with C.J. Wilson, who gained 281 yards in limited action a year ago. The Jackrabbits finished the 2018 season with a 10-3 overall record and made their seventh consecutive FCS playoff appearance, including reaching the national semifinals for the second year in a row.
Â
Beal earned both bachelor's and master's degrees at Montana State, where he was a three-year letterman as a running back and special teams performer.
