BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
AZUSA, Calif. - Oh, what a weekend it was to be a Jackrabbit in California.
Â
Let's start with the recently appointed fastest-ever 800m Jackrabbit.
Â
Her name -
Oksana Covey - and she sliced up the 800m outdoor record that was held by Kim Fordham since 1991, claiming the outdoor and overall record of 28 years.
Â
The sophomore (10th overall, 2:06.09) rewrote the record at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday afternoon by cutting 0.15 seconds off Kim Fordham's 1991 mark (2:06.24).
Â
Now that Covey has the outdoor and overall best 800m mark in school history, she can add that to her list of other school records with her name on it, including the indoor 600m (reset in 2019) and a share of the indoor and outdoor 4x400m relay marks (both reset in 2017).
Â
The Ankeny, Iowa native has broken old records in her freshman year as well (in 2017), resetting the then-29-year old indoor 800m record, which is now No. 2 to teammate
Krista Steele's best.
Â
Covey is also climbing the charts in the 400m over the weekend, adding the sixth-best outdoor 400m at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday. She finished the 2019 indoor campaign No. 8 on in the indoor 400m list.Â
Â
Now, we can't forget about SDSU's fastest-ever 200m Jackrabbit.
Â
Sophomore
Coby Hilton showed his consistency on Friday afternoon in Azusa, scoring the his personal-best, school-record, and overall fastest-ever time yet again. Just as he did two weeks ago in Vermillion (third, 20.92w).
Â
Once a 26-year old record, Hilton has now notched the 200m mark twice and is still the first Jackrabbit since Edmund Estephane (1994-2018) to own both the indoor and outdoor school record.
Â
Then came the 400m hurdles. An SDSU record list that hadn't been touched in five years and had all but two marks after the 1985 season ... until Friday.
Â
Enter
Reid Pierzinski.
Â
The freshman tallied a 1.23-second personal-best on Friday (14th overall, 53.43) to earn the school's seventh-best mark all-time. The best mark by a Jackrabbit since 2012 was fast enough to steal his heat's crown by 1.96 seconds.
Â
Before Covey was on the track, senior
Cal Lawton scorched his 800m race.
Â
The Jackrabbit climbed up the 800m all-time chart from No. 9 to No. 5 with a strong last-leg finish. The fifth-best mark all-time outdoors is his first outdoor PR reset and the Jacks' best outdoor time since the 2017 season (27th overall, 1:50.62).
Â
To close out the night, senior
Rachel King reset her 1,500m mark for the fourth time in her career, on her first attempt this season (50th, 4:25.40), in the invite section at Bryan Clay. She trimmed 1.03 seconds off to remain No. 2 all-time for SDSU, 2.61 seconds from the record (Becka Manshiem, 2007).
Fellow senior
Kyle Burdick published a season-best 1,500m in the invite section at Bryan Clay (30th, 3:44.74). A mark that is his best since his Second-Team All-America performance at the NCAA Championships in 2017.
Â
Earlier in the afternoon, sophomore
Mitchel Acker completed the weekend two-for-two with personal-best marks, first resetting his 400m by 0.19 seconds at the Pacific Coast on Thursday and another 0.06 seconds on Friday at Bryan Clay (42nd, 49.22).
Â
Freshman

Wrapping up the night was freshman
