Noah Freidel averaged 22.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game for the Tea Titans as a senior, earning Class A All-State First Team honors while being named the 2019
Argus Leader Player of the Year. He helped his team to Class A State Tournament titles in 2017 and 2019 and left high school as the program's all-time leading scorer.
Â
SDSU: You graduated last weekend from Tea, and are headed up to South Dakota State at the end of the month, so what have you been up to in the last few months as you prepare for college?
Freidel: I've been spending a lot of times with friends, and it's been kind of bittersweet. All of my good friends are spreading out to different states to go to college, so it will be different next year. But, I am looking forward to moving up to Brookings and getting started.
Â
SDSU: You wrapped up a pretty successful high school career a couple months back with another state championship. What did it take to get that done in your senior year?
Freidel: We really just had to focus every day and know that we had a target on our backs. My teammates and I hate losing, so it was great to get it done. Going into the year we knew we'd be able to score, but our success would come from getting stops and playing great defense.
Â
SDSU: That championship trophy came alongside Player of the Year honors for South Dakota. How'd it feel to get that news?
Freidel: It's an honor to be recognized. There are a lot of great players in the state, and the other guys who have won that award in year's past are extremely talented. I'm thankful to have my name included in that.
Â
SDSU: You had a little different recruiting story than most of the other Jackrabbits in your class. Why the switch to South Dakota State?
Freidel: I grew up watching South Dakota State play and always thought it'd be great to represent the Jackrabbits. I had the offer to Wright State and knew I would like it out there, but when the opportunity to come home and play at SDSU came up, I rolled the dice and went with it. Coach Henderson and the other coaches were great to meet with, and I loved the family atmosphere where everyone likes each other. It just seems like a really close-knit program.
Â
SDSU: Now that you are a Jackrabbit, what are you looking forward to?
Freidel: I was able to win two state championships at the Denny (Sanford PREMIER Center), so I'm looking forward to being able to play there again and hopefully get to March Madness.
Â
SDSU: What type of player will Jackrabbit fans see when on the court?
Freidel: I'm ready to dig in and do whatever it takes to win. That's the No. 1 goal, so whatever my teammates and coaching staff ask of me, I'll do.
Â
SDSU: And off it?
Freidel: Off the court, I'm a pretty talkative and social guy. I'm looking forward to getting out into the Brookings community and spending time with our amazing supporters.

Freidel is part of a recruiting class that includes NJCAA Player of the Year Doug Wilson, NJCAA All-American Tray Buchanan and all-state high school performers Owen Coburn (Iowa) and Baylor Scheierman (Nebraska).
