Volleyball announces 2019 schedule

The Jackrabbit volleyball team released its full 2019 schedule Tuesday, with season tickets available for purchase June 24.

For $40 per season ticket, fans will receive general admission seating for all 11 home matches and a limited edition Jackrabbit mini volleyball. Matches start with the Jackrabbits Invitational, Sept. 20-21, at Frost Arena. Other highlights of the schedule include SDSU's PINK game Sept. 29 at the Sanford Pentagon and a matchup with in-state rival South Dakota at home Oct. 8.

"With eight new faces and seven returners, there is a blend that needs to happen for us to perform consistently at a high level," head coach Nicole Cirillo said. "This schedule will help aid us in doing that. The strong mixture of tournaments will allow some good growth opportunities for our newcomers to gain experience. It will also challenge our returners to lead us in the right direction and properly prepare for Summit League action."

After the Blue/Yellow Scrimmage Aug. 24, the Jackrabbits open 2019 on the road for three weekends of nonleague invitationals, traveling to events at Eastern Illinois (Aug. 30-31), Lamar (Sept. 6-7) and Northern Arizona (Sept. 13-14). In addition to the host teams, SDSU will face Drake and Memphis at EIU, Prairie View A&M and Louisiana Monroe at Lamar, and Fresno State and LSU at NAU.

Following the season-opening roadtrip, the Jacks return to familiar territory for a five-game stretch that includes the Jackrabbits Invitational and the first weekend of Summit League play.

Milwaukee, Kansas City and Valparaiso come to Frost Arena for the two-day, round-robin showcase in mid-September, and the following weekend SDSU will open Summit League play against North Dakota State (Sept. 27) at home before the PINK game in Sioux Falls against Western Illinois (Sept. 29).

October sends the Jacks to Denver (Oct. 4) and Oral Roberts (Oct. 6) before a run of three-straight home games begins with a midweek bout against the Coyotes (Oct. 8). The Jackrabbits conclude the home stand against North Dakota (Oct. 13) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Oct. 18) before wrapping up the first half of Summit League play at Omaha Oct. 21.

Three home games and a trio of road contests fill the rest of the regular season for the Jacks. SDSU is home against the Pioneers and Golden Eagles, Nov. 1 and 3, respectively before three consecutive away dates against South Dakota (Nov. 5), North Dakota (Nov. 10) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Nov. 15). The regular season finale is Nov. 17 at home against Omaha.

The season culminates Nov. 22-24 in Denver, Colorado with the 2019 Summit League Volleyball Championship, hosted by the Pioneers. The top six league teams qualify for the event, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
