Jackrabbit golf head coach
Casey VanDamme announced the addition of South Dakota native Alex Shattuck as assistant coach Thursday.
Â
Shattuck is a 2018 graduate from William and Mary College, competing in 17 events for the Tribe over his four-year career. Originally from Sioux Falls, Shattuck reached the semifinals of the 2018 South Dakota Match Play after claiming the match play championship in 2017 alongside a stroke play medalist finish.
Â
The right-hander also qualified for and competed at the 2015 Boyd Quaich at St. Andrews and 2017 USGA Four-Ball at Pinehurst. He was recognized by William and Mary in his senior campaign with the 2018 President's Award, given to an individual who best exemplifies "citizenship, sportsmanship, and leadership."
Â
"We are extremely excited to bring Alex on to our staff," VanDamme said. "His skill level and knowledge of the game will elevate our program, and we are very thankful to our golf boosters for their assistance in taking our program to the next level."
Â
Prior to William and Mary, Shattuck played two years at Lake Mary Prep in Florida and spent time at the Mike Bender Golf Academy. He caddied at the Prairie Club last season and in fall 2018 returned to train at the Mike Bender Golf Academy.
Â
"I am excited to come home and be a Jackrabbit," Shattuck said. "Coach VanDamme has done a great job growing the program in his time at SDSU, and I am thrilled at the opportunity to help further that progress. The season is right around the corner and I am eager to get to campus and prepare."
Â
South Dakota State's men open the fall season Sept. 1-2 at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in Escanaba, Michigan. The women's first event is Sept. 9 at the NDSU Fall Match Play in Fargo, North Dakota.
