FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The South Dakota State volleyball team fell in three sets to LSU (23-25, 14-25, 13-25) on Saturday in its final match at the Lumberjack Classic.

The Jackrabbit's record fell to 3-6 after its final nonconference road match.

Makenzie Hennen led the offensive efforts for the Jacks with 12 kills and added four digs.
Crystal Burk and
Anna Nerad recorded four and three kills, respectively.
Madison Fay aided the offense with 14 assists and a service ace.
Ashlynn Smith and Nerad accounted for the Jacks' lone block, while
Tatum Pickar registered 10 digs.

Kills from Burk, Hennen and
Tori Thompson pushed the Jacks out to an early 8-3 lead in the first set. The Jacks held their five-point advantage (13-8) as Nerad registered a kill and Fay added an ace. LSU came back to take a 19-18 edge over the Jacks, but a Tiger error and a kill from Burk gave State the lead again, 20-19. The teams alternated points until LSU held a 24-23 lead, but an SDSU attack error gave the Tigers a 25-23 first set win.

The teams started out the second set with a three-point run, each, as Burk recorded two service aces for the Jacks to make the score even, 3-3. An 8-3 run gave LSU its first significant lead of the match. The Tigers carried their momentum throughout the remainder of the set, earning a 2-0 lead in the match after taking the second set, 25-14.

Big swings from Nerad and Smith, paired with three LSU errors, gave State an early 5-1 lead in the third set. However, LSU scored six unanswered points to take the lead, 7-5. A kill by Burk and two Tiger errors tied the set at eight-all. LSU commanded play for the remainder of the match as the Tigers earned a 25-13 win in the third set to complete the sweep over the Jacks.
