BEAUMONT, Texas – The South Dakota State volleyball team earned its first sweep of the season as it defeated Prairie View A&M, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-15) on Saturday morning in its final match at the Katrinka Crawford Invitational, finishing second among the four teams.

The Jackrabbits improved to 3-3 overall and posted a 2-1 record at tournament.
"We took care of business this morning and contolled the match from start to finish," said head coach
Nicole Cirillo. "Overall, it was a good weekend of growth with this young team showing it can #PERFORM at this level."

Makenzie Hennen led the way for the Jacks offensively with 17 kills while also adding eight digs and two blocks to the defensive efforts.
Crystal Burk recorded nine kills, six digs, and career-best four blocks.
Madison Fay aided the offense with 20 assists, while
Carly Wedel added 14.

Tatum Pickar led the back row defense with 15 digs. At the net,
Anna Nerad paced the Jacks for the sixth straight match with six blocks. The freshman also tallied seven kills.

Prairie View A&M scored the first five points of the match, but State answered with a 5-0 run of their own, highlighted by two kills from Nerad and one by Burk. PVAMU held an 11-10 edge when the Jacks went on a 10-2 run to take a significant 22-13 lead. The Panthers scored four unanswered points, but it wasn't enough as a big swing from Burk sealed a 25-17 first set victory for the Jacks.

The two teams traded leads for the beginning of the second set until the score was tied, 18-18. A 4-1 run with three kills from Hennen set the Jacks ahead, 22-19. Two Panther errors and a Nerad swing elevated the Jacks to a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-22 second set win.

The Panthers held an early 3-2 edge in the third set, but several short runs later and the Jacks were back in the lead, 10-5. State scored six unanswered points, which included to kills from Hennen and a Fay ace, to increase its advantage to 16-6. From there the teams alternated points, but it wasn't enough for Prairie View A&M as the Jacks picked up a quick 25-15 win in the third set to complete the sweep.

South Dakota State will travel to Flagstaff, Ariz. to participate in the Northern Arizona Tournament. The Jacks will face Northern Arizona and Fresno State on Sept. 13, before closing out the tournament against LSU on Sept. 14.
