After a week off due to weather and poor travel conditions, the South Dakota State track and field program returns to the SJAC for the SDSU Div. II Invitational on Friday and the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational on Saturday. Friday's meet is set to begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by Saturday's meet beginning at 12:30 p.m.
This is the first competition for the Jackrabbits since the SDSU Holiday Invite and Multi on Dec. 6 and 7 where the Jackrabbit men finished second out of 12 in team scoring, while the women finished third out of 12. Individually, 13 Jacks on the men's side found their performances landing them a spot in the program's top 10 list, while the women added five new marks good enough for a place in the top 10 lists.
Friday's SDSU Div. II Invite:
Friday's meet features a field of NCAA Div. II, NAIA and junior college programs, as well as athletes from SDSU.Â
"We'll bring about anywhere between 900 to 1000 athletes into town from various NAIA and NCAA Divi. II and junior college programs throughout the Midwest and give them an opportunity to get in a building that's quite big and get a large meet in in a reasonable amount of time," said Jackrabbits track and field head coach
Rod DeHaven. "Typically meets like this would take a lot longer at smaller facilities and the unique size (of the SJAC) allows us to get a lot in and give athletes an opportunity to compete."
