TRACK AND FIELD MAKES ITS RETURN TO SDSU

BROOKINGS— The South Dakota State men's and women's track and field program saw its first competition in over nine months Saturday as the team hosted South Dakota for a dual meet in the SJAC.

The meet marked the first event held in the SJAC since the NAIA National Championships in early March.

Senior Coby Hilton led the men and grabbed his first victory of the season after running a 6.83 in the 60m dash. Hilton's mark comes as a new personal best, passing his previous of 6.85 that has him third all-time at SDSU. The Summit League Preseason Athlete to Watch picked up his second win of the day in the 200m dash running a 21.34.

On the distance side, Daniel Burkhalter took home two first place finishes in his indoor track and field debut for the Jacks, claiming the men's mile title in 4:18.21. Later, the Prairie City, S.D. native took first in the men's 800 after a kick along the final stretch to finish with a time of 1:57.97.

Preseason Athlete to Watch Trent Francom picked up the win in the men's pole vault, clearing 17-2.75. In his Jackrabbit debut, Damian VanWesten took home a win in the men's 400m dash in a time of 51.43.

Daniel Clarke covered 23-6.75 to win the men's long jump.

The Jacks went 1-4 in the throws ring. Trevor Begeman covered a distance of 58-00.5 to earn first place in the men's shot put and claim second on SDSU's all-time list. Sam Coil followed, also throwing a personal best 56-10.75 which moved him to fourth all-time at SDSU.

Sam Coil's weight throw of 66-1.00 was good enough for first place and moved him to No. 2 on the top 10 list. Noah Huber took second with a mark of 61-5.00.

Josh Becker picked up a PR in the 800 with his time of 2:00.00.

On the women's side, Emily Altenburg took home a PR and first in the women's long jump with an 18-8.50 marking.

Making her Jackrabbit debut, freshman Camryn Brinkman finished first in the women's triple jump with a 36-8.50.

Jaymie O'Connor won the women's 60m hurdles in a time of 8.60.
