BROOKINGS — The South Dakota State track and teams return to the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex after a pair of weekends on the road with the SDSU Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.Â
A group of Jackrabbit distance runners will also be headed to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic. The Jacks will be represented in the women's 800, mile and 5,000 as well as the men's 3,000 and 5,000. More information on the Iowa State Classic can be found here.
"We're looking for a big weekend and to continue to build some momentum headed towards the conference meet," said head coach Rod DeHaven. "Now it's about focus."
LAST TIME OUT:
South Dakota State rewrote the program's all-time list during a two-meet weekend at the Dakota Realty / Alumni Invitational and Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
Jackrabbit distance standouts Ellie Friesen and Anna Donnay turned in marks good enough for spots on the program's top 10 list in the women's 3,000. Friesen turned in a 9:50.69 for fifth place and the new eighth best all-time mark, while Donnay finished sixth, running a 9:52.44 and claiming the 10th best SDSU mark of all-time.
On the men's side, Lukas Nelson found his name on the top ten list for the second time this season (previous was a 4:09.06 mile from Jan. 25 that put him at No. 10 all-time), running a 3,000 time of 8:17.65 to take seventh place and the new No. 5 spot on the all-time list. Joseph Minor-Williams took ninth place with a time of 8:22.54, passing head coach Rod DeHaven's 1989 mark of 8:22.90 to claim the eighth best time in Jackrabbit history.
In the early afternoon section of the men's mile, Thomas Breuckman took second with a mark of 4:12.61.
Oksana Covey picked up fifth place in the women's 800m with a 2:10.67, and Blake Iverson followed, also picking up fifth in the 800, this time with a mark of 1:54.15.

IN VERMILLION
Unattached Jackrabbit Jaymie O'Connor took second in the women's 60m hurdles finals with a time of 8.78. SDSU's Haley Mottinger (4th/8.86) and Kayla Neff (8th/9.40) joined O'Connor in the finals at the Dakota Realty / Alumni Invitational.
On the men's side, Nick Wessels went .02 seconds off of his PR with a 8.09 and took first in the men's 60m hurdles finals.
Jacob Lackas continued his success this season in the 60m hurdles. Lackas took third place in finals with a time of 8.22 to grab a new PR, and is now tied for 6th on the program's top 10 list.
Emily Altenburg took third in the 60m dash finals with a 7.91. Jake Werner represented the Jacks in the men's 60m dash finals and picked up a PR along the way with his 7.14 mark.
In the men's 200m dash, Coby Hilton took first with a 21.96 and Sam Zenner picked up second with a 22.03.
In the pits, Annie Wendt and Emma Stewart tied for second in the women's long jump with leaps of 18-02.00 and Daniel Clarke picked up a second place finish with his mark of 23-1.50. Trey Tiefenthaler took first in the men's triple jump at a distance of 46-06.74.
The Jacks took second and third in the men's shot put with Sam Coil (2nd/56-04.75) and Noah Huber (3rd/55-09.00).Â

JACKS T&F HOSTS ADDITIONAL EVENTS FOR STUDENTS:Â Â
The South Dakota State track and field teams announced additional events to the SDSU Indoor Classic on Feb. 15 in the SJAC.
SDSU students are encouraged to participate in the "Fastest Student on Campus" 60m dash on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1:00.
Prizes courtesy of Brookings Taco Bell will be awarded to top finishers. New this year, the first student to finish the race wearing cowboy boots (without spurs) will receive $25 cash.
Students are encouraged to arrive at the SJAC by 12:30 p.m. to sign a waiver prior to the race.
Additionally, there will be a high school mile race during the meet at 12:05 p.m. High school distance runners interested in entering can do so by emailing graduate assistant coach Anna Bearss at anna.bearss@sdstate.edu with their seed time by Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.
