South Dakota State softball travels to Houston, Texas for five games at the Scrap Yard College Softball Classic, Feb. 14-16. The Jackrabbits open the weekend Friday against UAB and Louisiana Monroe, then face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and McNeese State Saturday. SDSU wraps up its stay Sunday morning with a rematch against Louisiana Monroe.

The Jackrabbits are 2-2 after last weekend's Doc Halvorson / UNI Dome Classic, picking up wins over DePaul and Northern Iowa the opening weekend event.

Scouting the Jackrabbits
- SDSU hit .252 as a team and scored 11 runs over four games at the UNI Dome, tallying five extra base hits (two home runs, five doubles) while drawing six walks.
- The Jackrabbits posted a 2.50 team ERA and had 22 strikeouts as Grace Glanzer, Kendra Conard, Emma Hardin and Olivia Douglas appeared in the circle for the Jacks.
- SDSU saw Allison Yoder and Kelsey Lenox combine to throw six baserunners out trying to steal during the opening weekend of action. Yoder threw out three from behind the dish and Lenox caught a runner once.
- Grace Glanzer was victorious in her first two collegiate appearances, tossing complete-game wins against DePaul and Northern Iowa on the weekend. Glanzer allowed just one run in both games and tallied 10 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .130 batting average against.
- On a weekend where six Jackrabbit freshmen started a game, Cylie Halvorson stood out with hits in all four games, including a pair of multi-hit performances against DePaul and UNI. Halvorson tallied two doubles and played all 28 innings, going 6-for-11 at the plate with a pair of walks.
- Peyton Daugherty, Caelyn Christiancy and Allison Beaudry are the primary position starters back from last year's team, and the trio started all four games last weekend. Daugherty racked up 43 hits in her freshman campaign with six doubles, and has started the new year 7-for-14 at the plate. Beaudry had a double and two RBIs in opening weekend after hitting .237 a year ago.
- Kelsey Lenox and Allison Yoder blasted home runs in the team's first game of the season, and Daugherty tallied the first hit of 2020 in SDSU's first at-bat of the new year.
- Paige Gerdes is the lone senior on a team with 17 underclassman. SDSU's junior class includes four letterwinners. Gerdes has appeared in 102 games as a Jackrabbit with nine doubles and a pair of home runs.
- This year's group returns its entire pitching staff, including 2019 All-Summit League First Team selection Kendra Conard. Conard won 18 games a year ago with a team-best 1.35 WHIP and 2.87 earned run average. The South Lake Tahoe, California native is joined by Morgan DeMarais (3.36 ERA, 38 strikeouts) and Taylor Compton (4.10 ERA, 46 strikeouts, five saves) as pitchers who made 20 or more appearances. Jadelyn Johnson (5.1 innings pitched), Olivia Douglas (nine appearances, 15 strikeouts) and Emma Hardin (3-1, 14 appearances) fill out the returning staff.
- South Dakota State won 37 games the between 2018-19, matching its best two-year total all-time. The 74 wins are the most over two years as a Division I program, and are tied with SDSU's 1996-97 record (43 wins in 1996, 31 wins in 1997).
- The Jackrabbits have made two consecutive postseason appearances, earning a trip to regionals of the National Invitational Softball Championship in Greeley, Colorado (2018) and Ames, Iowa (2019).

Opponent Capsules
- UAB (4-1) opened the win with four wins at Georgia Tech's Buzz Classic, taking down Georgia Tech, Ohio (twice) and Fuhrman. The Blazers' only loss came against No. 1 Washington (8-7). Sierra Frazier earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors after hitting .563 with nine hits, three home runs, four doubles, four walks and nine RBIs, while Analyse Petree batted .389 and hit two home runs. Emily Kachel posted a 2.33 ERA with two wins in the circle, while Amy Woodham threw a team-high 15 innings and struck out 12. The Blazers will play at Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday on their way to Houston.
- Louisiana Monroe (2-2) played four games at home last weekend, topping Southern University twice (9-1, 5-0) while falling to Stephen F. Austin in two games (8-2, 12-0). Korie Kreps was 5-of-9 at the plate last weekend with a double and five walks, leading a ULM squad that hit .280 as a team. Jayden Mount added four hits, including a double and a triple over four starts. Murphy Williams (1.75 ERA) and Amber Coons (2.63 ERA) each made two appearances for ULM, as the team had 14 strikeouts in the circle and allowed 16 earned runs. The Warhawks will host Grambling State Wednesday before traveling to Houston.
- Texas A&M Corpus Christi (0-4) was winless on opening weekend at the University of Texas' tournament. The Islanders were outscored 36-7 on the weekend, but saw Sydney Hoyt (.375 average) and Ashleigh Sgambelluri each have three hits and a home run. Hoyt tallied a team-high five RBIs and Sgambelluri added a double. Hoyt also pitched in four games (13 innings) and struck out seven.
- McNeese State (4-1) opened the 2020 season with four straight wins at home before concluding the Cowgirl Classic with a 3-0 setback against North Texas. McNeese State is hitting .339 as a team with 36 runs scored and allowed just four through the opening five games. The Cowgirls drew 25 walks on opening weekend. Alexandria Saldivar (six hits) and Toni Perrin (five hits) put together strong showings at the plate, as Saldivar drove in five and Brenique Wright blasted two home runs and had four RBIs. McNeese State holds a 0.93 team ERA, as Alexsandra Flores (1.40 ERA) and Caroline Settle (0.70 ERA) each threw 10 innings last weekend. The Cowgirls will visit Texas A&M Thursday before facing the Jacks Saturday.
