HOUSTON -- Jackrabbit softball dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Scrap Yard College Softball Classic, falling 3-0 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and 5-0 to McNeese State.
South Dakota State is now 3-5 on the season and 1-3 at the weekend invitational.
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi 3, South Dakota State 0 Morgan DeMarais (0-1) started and pitched two innings, allowing one run on four hits and a pair of strikeouts. Emma Hardin threw the final five frames, striking out six with two runs allowed on four hits.
The Islanders took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, opening the frame with a double, single and fielder's choice to bring a run in.
SDSU looked to answer in the bottom of the third after putting two on (Olivia Pfeifer and Daugherty), but the Islanders got out of the threat with an out at home after Bassi's near-RBI single set up a play at the plate.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi carried that momentum into the next two innings, scratching across runs in the fourth and fifth to open up a 3-0 lead on the Jacks, where it stayed the rest of the way.
McNeese State 5, South Dakota State 0 Grace Glanzer (2-2) tossed a complete game, allowing five runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
A squeeze play in the second helped McNeese State snag a 1-0 lead early, as the Cowgirls took advantage of a one-out double and stolen base to set up the scoring opportunity.
SDSU came close in the fourth after Christiancy reached third on a one-out double and two-out passed ball, but a fly out to center ended the scoring chance.
The Cowgirls pulled away for good in the bottom of the six with four runs. After loading the bases with three-straight singles, McNeese State sent a run in with a ground ball, then with two outs went ahead 5-0 with a three-run home run.
