NEWTON, Iowa – South Dakota State University sophomores Tanner Sloan and Tanner Cook are each ranked individually in WIN Magazine's 2020-21 preseason wrestling rankings, which were released Friday.

Sloan, a native of Alburnett, Iowa, is ranked ninth in the 197-pound weight class. In his first season in the Jackrabbit lineup, during the 2019-20 season, he turned in a 21-6 record and was an NCAA qualifier following a runner-up finish at the Big 12 Wrestling Championship. Tabbed a second-team All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, Sloan led the team with eight wins by major decision and added four more victories by fall.

Cook, a fellow NCAA qualifier from Ilion, New York, checked in at No. 17 in the WIN preseason rankings at 165 pounds. He burst on to the scene last season by posting a 21-4 overall record en route to a third-place Big 12 effort, winning 14 of his matches by fall. His 12 pins against Division I opponents ranked fourth among D-I wrestlers.

South Dakota State, coached by Damion Hahn, completed the 2019-20 season with a 12-6 dual record and finished fourth in the team standings at the Big 12 Wrestling Championship. A schedule for the 2020-21 season has yet to be finalized.
