JACKS TRAVEL TO VERMILLION FOR USD INVITATIONAL

The South Dakota State track and field program heads to Vermillion Saturday for the USD Invitational.
The event marks the team's return to competition in over a month since it faced off against South Dakota in a dual on Dec. 5.
The USD Invitational is set to feature squads from USD, SDSU, Nebraska-Omaha (women only) and Drake. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on the fast 200-meter track located inside the DakotaDome.

LOOKING BACK South Dakota State opened the season last month in a familiar setting when the team met USD for a dual meet inside the SJAC.
In team scoring, the Jackrabbit men passed the Coyotes 73-62, while the women fell 77-51.
Coby Hilton ran a 6.83 to take first in the 60m dash. His time came as a new personal best, passing his previous of 6.85 that keeps him third all-time at SDSU. Hilton currently ranks seventh in the country in the event. The Summit League Preseason Athlete to Watch would later go on to capture his second win of the day in the 200m dash where he ran a 21.34? a time that currently places him first in the NCAA.
On the distance side, Daniel Burkhalter claimed two first place finishes for the Jacks, winning the men's mile title in 4:18.21 before taking first in the men's 800 after a strong kick along the final stretch allowed him to finish in a time of 1:57.97.
Trevor Begeman covered a distance of 58-00.5 to earn first place in the men's shot put and claim second on SDSU's all-time list. Sam Coil followed, also throwing a personal best 56-10.75 which moved him to fourth all-time at SDSU.
Later, Coil's weight throw of 66-1.00 would be good enough for first place and moved him to No. 2 on the top 10 list. Noah Huber took second in the event with a mark of 61-5.00.
Also grabbing wins back in December were Preseason Athlete to Watch Trent Francom who took first in the men's pole vault where he cleared 17-2.75. In his Jackrabbit debut, Damian VanWesten took home a win in the men's 400m dash in a time of 51.43. Daniel Clarke covered 23-6.75 to win the men's long jump.
On the women's side, Emily Altenburg took home a PR and first in the women's long jump with an 18-8.50 marking. Making her Jackrabbit debut, freshman Camryn Brinkman finished first in the women's triple jump with a 36-8.50. Jaymie O'Connor won the women's 60m hurdles in a time of 8.60.
