South Dakota State (1-0) will hit the road for the first time in the 2021-22 season as the Jackrabbits venture south for a contest at No. 13/14 Alabama (1-0). Tip from Coleman Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.
This will mark the second-ever meeting between the two programs, the first of which Alabama won 70-67 by virtue of a three-pointer at the buzzer in 2012-13.
"We have to stay true to ourselves," head coach
Eric Henderson said. "We understand what we are up against, but our guys believe in each other. We know what our strengths are and we have to play to those strengths. I like our guys and as long as they compete their tails off, that's what is most important this time of year."
NEWS & NOTES
- Five Jacks scored in double figures as South Dakota State picked up an 81-65 win over Bradley in Tuesday's season-opener. The 16-point win marked the Jacks' largest margin of victory in a season-opener in SDSU's Division I era (2004-05). It marked the 29th time SDSU has scored 80+ points under Eric Henderson.
- Douglas Wilson (20 pts./10 reb.) and Baylor Scheierman (10 pts./14 reb.) each recorded a double-double on opening night. It marked the first time since 2018 two Jacks recorded a double-double in the same game (Mike Daum & Tevin King at Eastern Washington).
- SDSU is 1-17 all-time against ranked teams, with the lone win happening against No. 16 New Mexico (70-65) back on 12/22/12.
- South Dakota State picked up right where it left off from three-point land. The Jackrabbits cashed in nine triples on 20 attempts (45.0%) in the season-opening win over Bradley. SDSU was one of four teams in the nation to shoot above 40% from beyond the arc in 2020-21. The Jacks' 40.4 three-point percentage ranked second in the country last season, only behind Baylor.
- The Jacks were 28-of-29 from the free throw line in Tuesday's victory over Bradley, led by a 10-for-10 performance from Wilson which tied his career high in makes from the charity stripe.
- Noah Freidel connected on a team-high three triples as part of a 16-point performance Tuesday against Bradley. It was the 30th game of his career in double figures.
- Matt Dentlinger has scored in double figures in 10 consecutive games dating back to last season.
- Freshman guard Zeke Mayo finished his first game as a Jackrabbit with eight points, a steal and three assists.
- South Dakota State enters the 2021-22 season after a 2020-21 campaign that saw the Jacks finish 16-7 (9-3 SUMMIT) and win their seventh regular season Summit League title in the last nine seasons.
- SDSU was ranked No. 10 in CollegeInsider.com's Preseason Mid-Major Poll.
- SDSU was picked to win the Summit League in a vote of the league's head coaches, SIDs and select media. The Jacks received 23 of 36 first-place votes and 636 points in the poll, while North Dakota State was picked second with 606 points and Oral Roberts third with 545 points.
- Three Jacks received preseason All-Summit League recognition in recognition in Baylor Scheierman (First Team), Douglas Wilson (First Team) and Noah Freidel (Second Team).

- SDSU fell on a buzzer-beater from Alabama's Trevor Lacey in the schools' only previous meeting.
- SDSU's Nate Wolters led all players with 30 points and tallied three rebounds and three assists. Jordan Dykstra finished with 16 points and led all players with nine rebounds.
- Four Crimson Tide finished in double figures, led by Trevor Releford's 18 points. Rodney Cooper added 17, Lacey 15 and Andrew Steele 11 points.
